V6 RWD Hot Rod Q?
I'm just starting on my second 35 chev pickup street rod. With the first one I went all out, 350hp 350cu with a corvette aluminum a-arm front suspension disk rear etc.. This one I want to tone down a bit (gas mileage) and go v6, I have a 96 buick regal 3800 s2, 97 monte carlo 3100 I love both cars, besides tossing tranny in both of them, these 2 motors are great!! I have a 96 GP 3100 v6 that I totalled still runs and I'd like to throw the motor into my 35 chev on an s-10 frame... Does anyone have a suggestion on rear wheel drive tranny I can use for this 3100? If so, what car can I grab one out of at the yard?

Not my strongest topic but the camaro and S-10 both came with the 2.8/5 speed. If you aren't going to do any major performance mods on this truck, then either trans will probably work just fine (hell, it could be the same trans in both for all I know).

The '98 (or is it '97?)+ 2.2L S-10 tranny will bolt up to the FWD engine, and accept the starter location.

or for an automatic, a 700r4 from behind a 2.8/3.1 camaro or 2.8 s10. up to 92. later ones were all electronic and require stand alone controllers that run around $800 or so.

There are MUCH cheaper options than the aftermarket standalones.

Agreed but it was a NV1500 and kind of a weak tranny. I would suggest a T5 if you can find one. They did have a version with 2 starter pockets on the bellhousing. Kinda rare but if you find it your set. It came on Camaros.
But you can always relocate the starter anyway.

I still watch ROBOTECH!
if you arent going for v8 beef might as well go for 5 speed awd. i had a drawing i made of a ferrari lookin el-camino style vehical based on a short wheelbase s-10 awd with a 5 speed. of course that involved a twin turbo v8, but a cool lightweight v6 would be just as fun, as long as its a stick.

x2 on not using the NV1500, the one in my xtreme was weak as hell, and it ate the synchros in record time.
some 4 cylinder S10's had the T5 FWD starter pocket as well. Here's mine.

I just have to ask.....
What the hell are you putting that in, that you need the shifter that far back?
