the 282 has been proven to take well over 400 HP/400 TQ un-modded in a jbody, it's weakness is high RPM shifts (6500 and above) and the 3rd gear syncro.
So, if you don't grind 3rd and shift at or around 6500 the HM282 should hold up well. You are in a heavier car so axles might be an issue...
1989 Camaro RS; Cammed 3500 swap, 45mm ITB's, Street/Strip Kitted 700R4, 3500 stall, Megashifter, 3.73 posi, EQ- LT headers, 3" Hooker Supercomp exhaust, etc...

this sounds like good news for me as well. if the F40 won't hold what i'm planning, then the 282 defintiely will...
any fix for the 3rd gear synchro? or was that saying: "stock the synchro sucks, but aftermarket works"?

yes, there is an aftermarket 3rd gear syncro that is better.. it's been several years since i've seen where to get it though.
a complete rebuild of a 282 and a LSD would be pretty close to bullet proof. Mine has 142K, all stock with a team green LSD and handles 4K rpm launches on slicks at over 300 HP. Shifts like the day it came off the lot.

i'm guessing thats you dave?
<---loves the exhaust, that is a True Dual setup? it sounds almost like my monte when i pull the vacuum line off for the brake booster.... it looks like i'm going to have to do some exhaust fab work when i have the money...
i've seen the install pics for the TG now. is it possible to even break it? it looks like the only thing that can even wear down is the springs. for $~200 it seems like a steal.
