It may not even been the same trany but I'm pretty sure it was.
Also earlier you said as long as I dont grind 3rd and shift @ 6500 it "should" (meaning not sertain) hold up. What good is that when my factory motor red lined @ 7000, and chipped it was @ 7200? Not much, when you consider it would be mated to a twin turbo TDC. So if I was to turn up the boost that sucker will go up like a hand-grenade.
I'm not here for your approval son. Nor do I need to come here and spout lies to impress people I don't even know! I'm here to learn a few things and maybe help others if I can. I deal in facts..
I've been in the fast car game for years, mostly F-body and larger passenger cars. The fact is anything can be broken.......
That wasn't a getrag/HM282, that was an Isuzu 5 speed. They are well known to be junk.. Son

http://videos.streetfire.net/video/I...00Z_195986.htm You can see me shifting my HM282 close to 7K there. I'm using the shift arms and detent springs from a Quad 4 W41 HM282 trans, original 1991 shift cables and a really short throw shifter.
the HM284 is probably the only option that can take the higher RPM's reliably although Curtis Walker (TurboZ24) was shifting his stok HM282 at 8K.. he's hard to find these days though.

Because stock sucks...
I can shift my 284 at 7100 all day long and it takes it just fine. Good syncros they have, yes... [/Yoda voice]

according to some on w-body, the third gear synchro is still a weak point even on the 284....
but someone knows an old-school machinist that can possibly start making replacement parts for the 284...

Now we're gettin' somewhere. So what do you think about the Muncie Fiero 4spd? Can it or will it take 400 fwhp? Or should I get more serious about using the 282. What is it's after market? Good/bad, or should I just go with trying to rebuilding a 284? I'm open to suggestions. I'm shooting for lower boost levels but would'nt mind being able to turn it up.

the ONLY problem with the 284 is lack of rebuild parts...

There's gotta be something I can go with or rebuild to take the abuse I tend to dish out on stuff. Man this sucks. Everything i hear about the different standards is always so up and down. Some say it will hold, anothers say they won't.. UGH!

W-Body for Life!
it may hold, you never know, but the lack of rebuild parts is the only reason i'm not considering it for my planned build.

Okay, I'm gonna see what I can dig up on this Muncie 4spd I've been lookin' at. Thanks for the help guys.

You could have a 284 rebuilt by Getrag. It only runs 3k for parts... 282s can be beefy units as well, mostly because of the Fiero crowd. I've heard of them holding up to a big block, but you can best believe the guy isn't stomping it at every single light he comes to.

fieros are also lighter than the average lumina....
then again, i THINK i may have heard about one of the fiero-fanatics hooking up a LS motor to either a 282 or a F40...
