It's looking to me as I will have to remove the trans with the engine as there is not enough room to separate them in the engine bay( flexplate hangs up or torque convertor centre hub maybe) any way this is what im told and read for pre 96 does anyone know a trick or if this is true or not i know i'll find out for sure pretty soon but maybe you can save me some trouble?thank you
no pretty pictures to look at, but it seems it's possible to seperate them and pull the engine alone.

I rebuilt my engine in my 1992 chevy lumina 3.4 last summer.
There is a lot to do to get the dohc engine out and you do not have to remove the trans with the engine.
First when you unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel push it as far away from the flywheel as possible it will move at least 3/4 inch.
When you pull the engine use a pry bar to pry the engine away from the trans as you ease the engine out.
It also helps to jack up the trans on the passenger side of the car where the axle goes into the trans so the bellhousing is on an angle that will give you more room at the top of the bellhousing.
