Thread: what tranny do i have

    do you use dextron III or has anyone tried the dextron 6 i didnt even see any at cheaker auto they had dextron III and i think dextron 4 synthetic

    there is no such animal as dex 4, GM went straight from dexIII to dexVI. IMO, it's worth the cost if the spec sheet is even 50% exagerated.

    ya you are right about dextron VI i wasnt paying attention to the label. what do you mean if the spec sheet is 50% exagrated . Is it ok to use dextron IV in the 4t45e 2004

    short version: MUCH improved compared to dexIII, and dexVI is backwards compatible with any other previous Dex fluids.

    so what i get out of it is that dextron IV is backward compatible with dextron III . Thanks for all your help and time robertisaar I learned a great deal about this tranny. So i think that i will try dextron IV.

    where could i go to get a service manual for this tranny for a good price

    as in to rebuild it, if necessary? ebay is usually a good choice.

    it had 12 bolts sorrey i counted the aliment tabs as bolts theres 2 of them. just thought that i would post this in case someone in the future reads this. so 12 bolts for the 4t45e tranny. in an 2004 olds alero v-6 3.4l
