    Making a 3400 look like a 3100

i race at a short track and we can only run up to 3100. I cant keep up with the 2.8 and 3.1 that the guys that are putting cams and getting there heads done. So I have a 1996 beretta with a 3100 i found a 3400 for $400 i was wondering if i could put my upper intake on the 3400 so it looks like a 3100. and if that is possible would the pump up the same.

The blocks are identifiable on the outside. If you can modify your engine, why not do that instead? You can use the 3100 intakes on a 3400 but if they see A on the block, they will know its a 3400 block. Put the 00+ 3100 heads and manifolds on your motor.

You have a B on yours now, and its on both sides of the block. The 00+ 3100 stuff is the same as what the 3400s have. 15hp easily. Ported they can provide even more power. Use the 3400 TB though, its 56mm instead of 52 like your 3100 has now.

Like i said they are running 2.8 and 3.1 with stage two and three cams and head work. i am fast but cant keep up with the leaders. No one runs a 3100 they cant figure out how to make it faster I have been trying to find out. so anything helps.

Cam it and do the newer heads and manifolds. Port them and its even better. I have headers available, though not in stock yet. The design is done though and more are being made. What are you going to do about tuning? That is very important. DHP does your 96 PCM and HPTuners would do a 97 PCM that drops right into your harness.

PCM is your computer. DHP is out of business but you can still find the hardware used sometimes. Cam depends on the powerband you use. You would need new valve springs at least, and if you went with a cam bigger than what I have listed as Street, then longer pushrods are a must.

grab a 3500 and grind the C off the block, drop that in with a healthy cam and a 3100 upper intake.

1989 Camaro RS; Cammed 3500 swap, 45mm ITB's, Street/Strip Kitted 700R4, 3500 stall, Megashifter, 3.73 posi, EQ- LT headers, 3" Hooker Supercomp exhaust, etc...
