I saw a couple of voices of reason, but even they devolved into a personal analysis of the perpetrator. Thank God we don't have maroons like that here.

I used to go to TG.O but haven't been in a while and can't remember my login name or password... DOH!

That kid in the video is very lucky to still be alive. My guess is the only thing that saved him is being thrown out and not taking all the impact that the car took. He was listed in critical condition the last time I looked though. The kid was from Mason so he MAY have been trying to get home or to work after being detained, who knows.

I've seen a few others in incredible MVA's live and occasionally one dies in a fender bender. I know there's a reason but it's sometimes hard to tell why.

From what I could discern in the video using a bit of pause button wizardry, when he hit the ground he "logrolled" and his arms stayed close in therefore dissipating his momentum in a survival friendly fashion. Personally, I would be amazed if he has any direct memory of the event from impact to the point where he stopped on the right shoulder.

Interesting. I just went by the site of the crash. If you notice on the video, the Firebird is already airborn before hitting the guardrail. That's because there is a drain about 6 feet in front of it, making a perfect launching pad. The car actually struck the rail about 1 foot off the ground. Joey Chitwood could not have set up a better ramp, than the ODOT.

The guy is still an idiot though, and apparently still alive. No explanations yet.

And just in case you are wondering. Those drains are in front of every overpass set of safety device guardrails. Yeah the guy is an idiot, but..... Watch the vid again. See the dirt kicked up before he tags the rail? Very cool wreck.

yeah i noticed the brakes too. i know it's a panic reaction but at that point even he had to know he was screwed.

kid's lucky the car didn't turn the other way and hit the pole with the driverside.

I haven't heard anything further with the story.

Only funny thing is that the highway department put up the wire style guard rails along a good part of this highway, but not in the section where this happened.
