  • Oil Pump Drive Quick Fix

I have done this myself it was fairly easy it took about 6 hours, but I was in no way hurrying.

    1. Remove the air filter elements. (Use a flat head screwdriver)
    2. Remove the plenum. (You will need a 10mm and 13mm socket, and a pair of vice grips.)
    3. Remove the 4 bolts holding down the fuel rail, remove the thin metal rail running along the top of the fuel line. Pull up and the injectors should simply pop out.
    4. Remove all electrical connectors on the harness for the fuel rail, (3 by the ECM, Cam Position Sensor, The sensor behind plenum, and coolant temperature sensor) and then swing the riggins out of the way.
    5. Grab a 10mm socket with a 6 inch extension and a universal socket joint. undo all the bolts holding down the lower manifold. (COOLANT WILL PISS OUT EVERYWHERE) You will need to use the universal joint to get the bolt on the bottom rear head near the power steering pump, you will see why.
    6. Undo the heater pipe rubber hose by the brake fluid resevoir and the upper rad hose. Remove lower intake manifold.
    7. Cover up intake ports with paper towels, jam them in there.
    8. Grab some heavy duty engine degreaser or brake cleaner and spray the hell out of the entire valley (might as well clean the whole thing) and scrub with a tooth brush.
    9. Grab compressed air (if available) or buy a little can of compressed air and spray the piss out of the valley starting from the belt and working towards the tranny. Then spary the snot out of the oil plug area.
    10. Grind the top of the plug down with a dremel in a v notch fashion. Clean with compressed air.
    11. Undo the 13mm retaining bolt. Remove C-Clamp.
    12. Use needle nose pliers to pull up on the plug.
    13. Use teflon tape its kinda orangish pinkish. You need to spin about a foot of this stuff between your fingers then double it up and spin it together again so that it makes a thin rope. Get a partner to hold the plug up with the pliers and wrap the tape around the underside of the plug TWO times overlapping each other, very important that you do it twice.
    14. Push the plug down and finger tighten bolt. Wait five minutes and torque down to spec.
    15. Reassemble the reverse of tear down.

Instead of cutting the brown o-ring the teflon tape allows you have a complete seal. No RTV sealant is required.

That depends on how easy you can get to the dizzy plug to change the O ring... and how easy it is to change the alternator.

Dug up the GM Service Bulletin for "Lifter tick when cold", 57-61-09. '91 to '95 LQ1 (VIN X)

http://mymonte.com/discussion/topic/...e-%2357-61-09/ The parts kit has been discontinued by GM long ago. My quest was to find sources for those parts; and complete the procedure on my '93 Lumina Euro 3.4 which was torn apart to replace the rear head gasket. There are three critical part numbers in the GM service kit (aside from gaskets and O-rings) required t...

  • 3.4 DOHC Heads on a 3x00 Block
    by bszopi
Several people have talked about the possibility to use the 3.4 DOHC heads on the 3x00 engines. Some for performance, and some for replacment, where getting a 3.4 DOHC block might be difficult, but getting a 3400 (or even a 3100) block might be easier to come by. For these test fittings, I used a 1994 3.4 DOHC BLOCK, a 1994 3.4 DOHC REAR head, a 1999 3100 SFI BLOCK, and a 1996 3100 SFI head. This article is broken into 3 sections. The first section is BASIC COMPARISONS where I compare the BLOCK o...

    by Dave96z34
The 97 4T65 in the Monte Carlo is almost bullet proof. I have been beating the crap out of my reman with my blower now for 2.5 years of daily driving vs the 60 NA that I couldn't get 1 year out of. 4 Trans in 50K miles. I'm a violent offender. Overfilling and royal purple atf are my secret. DHP will do 96 and 97 DOHC tuning, HPTuners only works with the 97 computer. 96 can not change line pressure, 97 can. 97 bin is double in size of the 96 bin. They changed every thing and it has every ...

  • 3.4 DOHC Pistons
    by SappySE107
Here is the TRW catalogue spec sheet for the 91-95 as well as the 96/97 pistons.

    TRW 3.4 DOHC Pistons
Silvolite 3.4 DOHC Pistons Notice that the 96-97 pistons don't have as much compression distance but also have a dome to them. I dont know the exact amount of compression loss you will get when using these pistons with the 91-95 heads, but it goes against the common belief that 96 pistons raise compression. The Silvolite pistons are the EXACT pistons used in the 91-
