  • How to ID z34

As part of a package trade I wound up with a still in the crate z34 long block. Will probably put it on ebay but don't know the specifics of what I have. Where do I look and what do I look for to ID this motor? And are some worth more than others? thanks, allen

Take some pictures of it we can tell if its a 91-93 94-95 96-97 by a few key things. 91-95 are not worth as much as 96-97's

    96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

1991-3 don't have a cam position sensor on the front valve cover (rectangular cover)
1994-7 do have a cam position sensor on the front valve cover (driver side upper corner of VC is notched)
1991-5 exhaust ports on the heads are "D" shaped (curved on one side, flat on other like a D)
1996-7 exhaust ports are "pill" shaped (elongated and symetrical)
1996-7 have knock sensors on both front and rear of block (1991-5 only have 1 on rear)

Among many other small differences. pic will definatly ID the motor.

          You missed a few.
97's the front exhaust manifold wont have a hole for air pump.
95-96 the valve cover front and rear changed

          96 Z34 3.4 SC DOHC Getrag, 284 5sd manual transmission, stage 3spec clutch, 97 engine, 97 pcm, S3 intercooler 1 of 1 Roots SC LQ1 in the world 8.5 psi.

Looks like a 91-95 with the D shaped exhaust ports.

You have a 91-93 it has no cam position sensor. Does it have a flex plate on the back for an automatic or a fly wheel for a manual? That would be the hit of what cams it has in it.

This site doesn't display properly on my computer any more. I can't get to PMs or the user control panel. I have NO idea what's wrong, or even if it's at my end or a problem with the site.

I sent a pm to NCTeacher, but if he replies, I may not be able to read it.

Tried sending a note to forum administrator using "contact us" button at bottom of page, but I'll be surprised if he gets it--sent it three times but got error messages each time.
