  • 91 Corsica 3.1 Liter in a 74 VW Baja Bug

Well, not quite "in" yet, but getting closer. Just thought I'd toss a pic out. Motor is mated to a 76 VW Bus transaxle through a custom adapter made by Hecker Machine local to me(similar to KEP).

76+ are called 091 type2 transaxles. Before that they were called 002 type 2s. The 091 has a r/p of 4.5x I think, which is a big step up from the stock bug trans I used to run (3.88 r/p at best). The 091 is the strongest of the bus transmissions, and should hold up for me for a while. A friend of mine ran an 091 against his turbo 2.3 Ford around 8 lbs of boost. That car would practically do wheelies. When the 3.1 fineally does kill the 091, its only 1200 to have it rebuilt with basically bulletproof internals. *only 1200*...for a car I'm into 1500...sounds about right.

I just cant wait to get it all in and running. Still have to build my own headers, probably rig up the stock Corsica AC pump to work as an air compressor...be nice to air myself back up after duning.
