Got cam holding tools and the pulleys came right off... Go figure.

Head removed from 2 and 4

Head looks to have survived enough to be refreshed and re-used.

    Headless...

I can only get #4 piston out without a huge alan wrench

    Fits on the bench... LOL...

    Scored Cylinder

I don't know how this thing can hold as much power as it does... Look at the size of this crank! thats a 3/8 inch/lb torque wrench next to it... 120-960in/lb range on the wrench for reference.

I feel like I took apart a Briggs motor!

Got word from the Machine shop this weekend, Bores cleaned up at .25mm over so I will be ordering my list of parts today... Its only $2,400 worth of stuff... LOL

Last year my friend put a rod through the block in his 95 STI. Really cool car and loads of power. I think he blew it up from constantly hitting the rev limiter doing AWD doughnuts haha.

as soon as I saw a flat four, and heard FOD damage spark plug, I knew it was a Subaru with a blown ring land!

I knew it was a blow ring land when I pulled off the header and saw #4 soaked with oil.. It was then confirmed when I looked through the exhaust port and could see the piece of piston that was missing... LOL

Thats ok though... Forged will be taking it's place.

Well, Had a few issues with the machining, we'll leave it at he f-ed up the deck on one side and didn't clean up the bore enough... so it had to go back. I should have it this week though.

On a good side note the Beretta is running again! Wahoo!

Ok well I'll be honest, this is my first time building one of these so I have an excuse... LOL

I got to put the bottom end together TWICE!!! lol

Once without the coolant o-ring and the second time with it Hey I got to see if my method of applying the silicone worked out and it appeared that it would have so I did it the same way when I put it back together.

I guess you could say its better that I realized that I forgot it and it NEEDED to be there because of what the pipe was, but the illustration I was working on pointed out three o-rings and not the fourth so I overlooked it. Once I realized it was a coolant passage I was like WHOA wait here that's right in the crankcase it NEEDS to be sealed.

You can see it missing in this photo... lol

The cute little crank with the rods.

And finally almost a short block

Just need to gap the rings and install the pistons.

And yes the motor will be seeing some paint before it goes in, no way to clean all that crap off without sandblasting it... Just plain ole aluminum silver though, nothing fancy.

Bores came up perfect for clearance, 3 and 4 were .0003 tight so I'll re-measure the pistons and see if any are slightly smaller and put those in those two cylinders, but .0003 isn't enough to sweat over. Either way none of them are larger than 3.937 which is good since I don't want any excess noise from extra clearance.
