  • Whiteboard explaination of HP vs. Torque

This kid is an engineering student who has a great series of videos where his topics cover the physics and energy aspects of a whole range of automotive component designs. Most of us would not bother trying to decipher the more esoteric aspects of these matters... but his videos are so well done and really provide a good look under the skin of the "Power Math" and so might well be worth a look from the novice and experienced engine builders and tuners as well:

What's the difference between horsepower and torque? What does it mean to me? An explanation of horsepower and torque, and a way of explaining it so everyone...

while that's a workable way to explain it, a better way IMHO would be that:

torque is measured, HP is calculated based on torque at specific RPMs.

more torque at any RPM = more power at that RPM.

torque and HP will always be equal at 5252 RPM due to the calculation used to derive HP from torque.
