  • Ran the Lobster at the 1/8 mile again

Skyview Drag in Owego, NY. Actually has a pretty view, built on a hill. Secluded pretty well.

The Lobster cut it's time by a .5 a second. Improvments since the last run were, a full 2.5 inch exhaust with Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers, new solid rubber engine mounts, Ben's retune of the engine management program plus some things I've adjusted, 160 degree fan enable with 160 degree thermostat, mid grade fuel, new MAP sensor and TPS, and 2 Bottles of Hyper-Lube honey which actually stopped my smoking on start-up.Guess the seals were crusty after all those years of not being used...

This is a '92 GrandPrix SE with a 3.4 TDC and standard shift transxel with 171,000 miles. Tire size 245/45/16 BFG Comp T/A ZR. The car looks like it'll do a high 15.

Ran again to day at E-Town in NJ temp 48 deg.

Race weight minus driver 3404. I f I removed the spare and jack it would be sitting nicely under 3400.

Low traction. Line was super slick. Also ther was a cross wind earlier on so the closed the track down temporarily to 1/8th mile. Here are the numbers

    R/T- -.058
60'- 2.74(Wheel Hop and Low traction)
    330'- 7.09
    1/8- 10.61
    MPH- 70.38

    R/T- .422
    60'- 2.91(Low traction)
    330'- 7.27
    1/8- 10.77
    MPH- 70.56
    1000'- 13.72
    1/4- 16.19
    MPH- 90.87

    R/T- 1.26
60'- 2.48(Didn't give enough gas, Engine stalled and came back on. Low traction)
    330'- 6.66
    1/8- 10.12
    MPH- 71.48
    1000'- 13.05
    1/4- 15.52
    MPH- 91.17

    Car seems healthy.

    Alterations:
2.5 inch exhaust with HF catalyst and dual Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers
    245 45 16 BF Goodrich Comp T/A's
    WOT Engine Program
    Minor Changes to WOT Program
    160 Thermostat
Stainless Steel Mesh Funnel ram filter
    Stock timing
    New interior carpet(much lighter)
    AC/Delco Rapid Fire Sparkplugs
New lower motor mounts, Solid front lower mount
    93 Octane
    175,000 mile

Like me and others have always said the TDC just seems to work best with the Standard shift. I could never get my last TDCauto to move so well. Still not happy with the the maintenance factor of it, or the valve train but, the heads can stay. I think this would be a world class engine if ditched the belt and go with a roller chain, free up some of the friction, and rotating mass, assembled camshafts, roller followers or go to a Sohc setup and use lighweight roller rockers.

I'm sure I can coax more out of it. Drag radials will make my life sooo much easier. Despite all the stupidness today, it did pretty well

Damn that makes me feel like shit. Great numbers though. I can't get my 92Z34 5speed into the 15s...very bad timing. So are you happy with the car, considering the condition when you got it?

Yeah its in very good shape now. One would be hard pressed find anything too bad with the car with milage in consideration, it isn't new but it it looks pretty good and runs well.

It's all a matter of just hooking up and shifting as fast as you can without breaking the gearbox. You learn by doing. But that last launch was so embarassing, worse than the first two. The car felt like an earthquake...Gotta give it more gas...I'm going to try to get out one more time before the season end. I'll go to a track that will give me more than 3 runs.

Not bad. Get those 60ft's down and cut some high 14's to low 15's.
