  • VSS needed?

Is a VSS signal needed for a 1228062, manual trans?

What does the ECU normally use it for? Torque converter lock up? Is there any detriment to running without one?

What setup is that? I am not familiar with that computer. VSS is used for fueling (switching between tables) and decel. I don't know if your specific setup uses it for all of that or not though.

      89 Trooper. Also used in S-10 2.8 and 4.3. It's TBI.

From what I've read, bypassing the VSS is a bad idea. I found a nifty AutoMeter electronic tach that can be calibrated easily for larger tires. I'd have to switch to an electronic speedo sender (currently have a cable with the VSS mounted inside the speedo).

Its better to have it but with enough tuning you may be able to go without. I have no idea on that ECM though. I am using the 727/730 type computer which is a P4. I think yours is C3. A lot smaller chip, less code.
