  • OBD1 GM tech1 scanner to laptop...What's needed?

Ok, I have a GM Tech1 Scan tool that I have been using for a few years (don't ask) and I was wondering if I could hook it up to my laptop. Not looking to tune so much as to use it for diagnosis purposes. So what do I need? Any help to this newbie question is appreciated.

Probably not. I haven't seen too many Tech1 that could be used that way. Though I have seen a couple with RS-232 connections that I believe were for upgrading the firmware.

For the $85 for a USB ALDL cable from moates, it would be a much easier and likely cheaper way to datalog.

If you have a bonefied serial port on your laptop, you can build a rather inexpensive cable as well. Usually for less than $20.

Most OBD1 diagnostic software is free.
