Can anyone tell me if the 16156647 is just a newer part # for the 7165? The pinouts appear to be identical and they share some codemasks but other than that I can't find much info.

i don't know about it being a newer version... but if they share masks(which ones, BTW?) then that is always a good sign.

the only mask i know for certain of for it is D5. tunercat lists $94 as being able to be used in both.

perhaps it's a mask specific issue, but the TPI guys always have communications issues with the 7165s, i'm not sure i would want to use one specifically because of it.

Well I know my ALDL cable works with it because we've datalogged on it before. And yeah it's from a 2.5 93 Sonoma likely running $94. Only thing I really need to know about it is whether or not it has two injector drivers.

Basically we're trying to keep this swap as cheap as possible so using the stock ECM would be a bonus. If we have to go to a 7730 it would only need re-pinning anyway.

here is what solid info i could find:

87-91 truck 2.5s used a 7165, 92-93 used the 6647. the 6647 was also used on 92-94 CPI 4.3 engines. i took a look at the diagrams for the 4.3, only shows 1 injector circuit at D16. the 2.5 applications show the same injector circuit being used.

could open it up and see if two drivers are present or are even possible.

Why are you concerned with 2 injectors drivers, then go on to suggest using a '7730, which also only has a single injector driver?
