  • Oregon to Ban Aftermarket Car Parts

Don't know if this impacts anyone here, and didn't find anything from searching....

Oregon Introduces Bill to Prohibit Sale of Aftermarket Parts

At the request of Governor Theodore Kulongoski, the Oregon Speaker of the House has introduced legislation (H.B. 2186) to prohibit the sale and distribution of aftermarket motor vehicle parts if alternatives are available that “decrease greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.” The bill is primarily focused on aftermarket tires and would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to implement enforcement regulations, likely based on a rolling resistance calculation.

We Urge You to Contact Oregon Speaker of the House Dave Hunt and Members of the Environment and Water Committee (Contact Information Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 2186

    * H.B. 2186 would regulate vehicle fuel economy, an authority reserved to the federal government.

    * H.B. 2186 could ban tires that may have improved performance, handling or appearance features, based solely on a rolling resistance rating. In addition, this program could easily distract consumers from focusing on more important safety issues such as tire inflation and overloading of vehicles.

    * H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products.

    * H.B. 2186 could prohibit aftermarket parts designed to either personalize or optimize specific vehicle performance attributes including handling, towing, suspension, fuel economy, etc.

    * H.B. 2186 provides broad authority to government regulators and could limit a range of aftermarket parts currently available to consumers based on the subjective determination of government regulators.

Interesting, you would think that the aftermarket manufacturers as well as tire manufacturers would step up because it will directly affect their potential to be competitve.

i just read that on a local forum, every1 on there doesnt think it will pass. its just stupid, most aftermarket engine parts make your engine MORE efficent and it would affect way too many cars on the road now. if it did i would move to washington..

I live in Oregon, I can't imagine how that could pass. Most of the state doesn't have any sort of emissions testing.

that says "restrictions and prohibitions on the sale and distribution of"

does that make it illegal to bring them in from outside the state as well? i would think that would only accoutn for in-state stuff, and it doesn't say anything about owning aftermarket parts.

but i agree, i most likely won't get passed

Start kissing what ever you have left for rights out the window. If one should want to mod there car even at the risk of hideous or dangerous action/parts then they will live with the consequences if it should cause harm to one another. Laws shouldn't be allowed to dictate what you can or cant do to property that you or

is this law implemented or not? this is totally sicked i was looking for an aftermarket car parts until i saw this thread. that will be totally unfair to consumers. OEM are very expensive so why not just buy aftermarket ones that works like an OEM.

This would be a very STUPID law.

So if I drive to Oregon to visit family in my sleeper, would that be illegal? Such a stupid law, so stupid its sickening.

We have one right that can NEVER be taken from us. The RIGHT to RESIST. The US Gov had started a Demoralizing campaign in the 60's and is nearly done with that stage. The next stage is Crisis which, if you have noticed, is starting. The end goal is to rule the world with an Iron Curtain Socialism.

We will always have the right to resist and fight for our freedoms. The US Military would not allow such. I know a few 'Soldiers' rate E7+ who believe the Military is also responsible for internal threats to this nation, which includes corrupt government. Should the evil politicians get their way, the US Military would be knocking on their door. Trust that. Which is why most forces stationed in the US are being deployed. To minimize the Militaries ability to resist the US Gov should they make their move against our freedoms.

Little do they realize, that with performance, also comes economy. Burn gas efficiently is a win for both sides. But Liberals have HUAS. Head Up Ass Syndrome. Just sayin', from experience....
