  • 284 v. 282

what is the difference between thetwo? is the 284 stronger, or have different fdr?

    thanks

284 is about 50 pounds heavier, and harder to get parts for (impossible nearly). Its stronger, and uses a pull type clutch vs push type for the 282. 3.61 i think is the 284 FDR. Its close ratio as well, similar to the 282 out of the 190hp quads and something else I think. That 282 had a 3.94 as well. brian89gp.com used to have the charts but I dunno if that is still up.

you don't want that 3.94 FDR! 3500 rpm at 60mph will suck!

i found it was more like 2850 at 60mph. however thts with the .81 5th gear, swap in a v6 5th gear (.72) and it drops you to 2450 at 60mph, wich was actualy perfect with my cam i was running.
