  • '00 GA trans into '01 Impala?

I have a chance to pick up a 3400 and automatic transmission from a 2000 Grand Am. Is this transmission the same model that's in my 2001 Impala (also 3400)? I'm thinking that I could have it rebuilt and then swapped in.

    Thanks!

2001 Impala most likely has a 4T65-E, whereas the 2000 GA will have either a 4T40-E or 4T45-E.

Interesting. Do you know if they're interchangeable? Or are the cases physically different?

      Thanks!

Waaaaay different sizes. The 4T65E is significantly larger.

yes, two entirely different sizes and internals. you'd also have to be able to tune for the different FDR and slightly different gear ratios.
