  • When was the SFI dropped?

When did they stop engraving SFI on the 3400 plenum? I just picked up a 3400 that I don't have a solid history of and I am wondering if there are any other identifying methods to figure out what year the engin actually is. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it always got '3400SFI' on it. I have never seen one that just says '3400' on it. Now, if it is completely blank, then that would be a 97-99(?) minivan 3400, as those are the only ones that didn't have anything on the plenum.

Should have the last 2 digits stamped on the LIM. 00 for 2000 or 99 for 1999 etc.

Its about a 1.5"x1.5" raised section so its hard to miss. Not sure if it can be seen with the plenum on tho.

Sure as heck there it was... It was kinda dim where it was being stored... I just found a pic of it.
What the heck is that thingy just in front of the oil fill hole... it goes around the engine to the other side where there is another thingy just like it in front of the coils... metal tubes with what looks like a vacuum solenoid interface... is it AIR injection?

Thanks! That will be a huge help when I go to get documentation for this thing. I am new to the 3x00 but I have a 2.8 Gen 1 and I know my way around it fairly well... I am excited to get this thing home.

Those last 2 digits aren't always accurate though... Pretty sure my 02 that I have has 00 on it.

Mine says 03, so they must have changed something for '03+ 3x00's.

                        For the 3400 I have seen 99, 00, 03

On the 3500 I have seen only the 04

8mm rocker arm studs. I don't think I saw any difference between 00 and 03 lower intake manifolds.

00-02 have 00 on the LIM.... there is a 03 stamped LIM that is 03+ and then the 3500's have 04 stamped on the LIM.

I dont know if the 03 stamped LIM is different or not, they must have changed something to justify a new casting.
