  • 3.1/3100 interchange

First off I wanna say this is a pretty neat site. I am a member over at Performance Trucks and Silverado SS and my purchase of a commuter car led me here. I bought a 97 Monte Carlo with a 3100 engine that has a rod knocking and or spun main(s). It still runs smooth and was ran low on oil which caused the bearing failure.
My question in this...What year(s) 3.1 can I use? I have searched around and found a few answers. I know for sure I can use 96-99 vin "M" but what about later model engines? I have no problems changing intakes, exhaust manifolds, sensors or whatever. I am looking at a couple of engines a 2000 model as well as a 2001. I don't wanna waste my money on something that dosen't work. The reason is mainly because it is easier to find later model engines with low miles. I am in Southwest Ohio if someone has some leads. Thanks!!

Yea you can use any late model 3100 or 3400 just fine. A few minor things might need changing to make the hoses mate up and stuff but no major surgery is required.
