IIRC if you are putting 3500 heads on a 3400 block, you use 3400 head gaskets..

one problem... the 3400 gasket doesnt clear one of the combustion chambers in the head. i think i got a head with a werid cast or something.

no1 seems to have a problem with the 3400 gasket but me lol

I mentioned this subject a long time ago, but their are two castings for the 3500 heads and I believe their was a first design that was changed shortly afterwards. I could see a difference in my 04 3500 heads compared to the pictures of the one's posted in the old 3500 thread where in the eyebrow like ridge around the intake valve perimeter was not present on my cylinder heads. I was also asked about which casting number I was looking for when I called and inquired about a set from a salvager some time ago.

Yeah I would try and try again to see if you can't get the 3400 to work.

Can you trim/cut a headgasket? Hmm.

not if its the fire ring over hanging into the chamber... then you end up with a pre blown headgasket before you even start it.

Ok, so the stuff is sealed and that would cause it to split apart then I suppose. Never saw one up close enough to see how they were made. I figured you wouldn't be able to.
