  • Never rains but it pours.

Got a '90 Celeb Eurosport wagon\3.1\135K. Running along good for the past year then, all of a sudden ECM codes 22 and 35. Replaced the IAC and TPS sensors, did the relearn procedure but now the TPS code is back. Start up the engine idles about 1500 rpm and shifting into gear too soon causes the engine to stall. After it warms up sufficiently, it all seems to improve 'though the 4 speed shifts roughly and often fails to shift down causing the engine to die at a stop. Disconnected the transmission solenoid - seems to help. Is there any hope?

How does the wiring look? Have any critter nests under the hood anywhere?

The plot seems to have thickened. Along with the high revving engine start, white smoke is coming out the exhaust and the revving is now slower then faster again. Now, when reverse is selected, there is a heart stopping thunk. The gear does engage but that's as far as I went. I'm thinking if it's head gasket it's done.
