    The 3500 plenum tb adapter...
If I buy this, will I be able to put my 70mm 4.3L Vortec throttle body on there???

  • #2
Which one? If you are talking about the LX9 3500 non-vvt one, then no, that's made to bolt up a 3100/3400/TCE TB.

If you are talking about the one in the 3900 section, I'm not sure.

Does the one in the 3900 section also bolt up to the 3500 VVT and the Non-VVT 3500 LX9?
And of course I guess what are the TB's with the same pattern? Is the 4.3 the same bolt pattern as the 5.3l, and Northstar TB's? What about LS1 ?

you can make the adaptor easily. just have to be creative on your paticular linkage set up. it took me all of $13 in a piece of metal, a drill and a few bolts. and a tap. i wish i had a way to make a template on the computer, but its not even needed.

        ......................4.3T

        ........3.5X.................... 3.5X

        ..........3.5TB................... 3.5TB

        .....4.3B ...............................4.3B

        4.3= 4.3 bolt holes

        3.5= 3500 bolt holes

4.3T=the one on the top of the 4.3 tb, you need to tap this..i had to drill out the tb's hole and used a m8X1.25 tap and bolt

3.5X= the adaptor plate is bolted to the plenum here (you can notch the throttle body to clear the bolts. just make sure you dont go into any area that has an air passage, youll see what i mean)

3.5TB= through both the throttle body and adaptor plate. i had to drill into the throttle body, but it is well clear of anything.

4.3B= nothing here, these are the bottom bolt holes on the 4.3 tb. you dont need them cause the bolts that are just above this do the job.

basicly you have 3 bolts holding the tb to the plate, and 4 bolts holding the plate to the plenum. its just that the 2 bottom bolts serve as the tb and adaptor plate hold down.

the throttle body doesnt sit strait up and down, kind of cocked to the left

        does this make sense?

Damn, I never even thought to look in the 3900 section!
So this will let me use my 3500 plenum and bolt up a 4.3 TB or a North* TB??
            Hmmmm..... I have both.....

You will have to modify the plenum as well, but yes, it works with either one. You can mount it so its angled or straight compared to the plenum.

if they are both 3 bolt TBs, then this adapter works for both.

The North* TB is a 75mm piece and has 4 bolts. The Vortec TB is only 70mm and only has 3 bolts.
Eventually, Im gonna be sending my 3500 plenum into you to get it ported out and at that same time Im just gonna have you throw the adapter on it for me and port match the plenum opening.... I just dont have the extra money for all that right now!
Which TB do you think I should go with?
Dave, how did you set up the throttle cable on your North* TB??
To me, it looks like the cable will have to go down and around itself....

the northstar TB is a 3 bolt, just like the LSx TB's

I'm using the throttle cable bracket that came with the N* TB and a cable for a 96 Corsica.

Either is really too big so 70mm is best. You'll have turbulence with having a TB adapter that is bigger between the TB and manifold some what.

I'll have to take a few pictures of my North* TB as soon as my batteries recharge... its definitely a 4 bolt and it definitely came off of a Caddy North* engine!!
How many MMs is the TB adapter?

                          75mm as that's what the N* is.

Ok, so if the adapter is 75 and the Tb is 75, I should just get Ben to port my plenum out to 75mm and it will all work good together!!
Keep in mind that Im going turbo, so bigger will be better here!!
The only thing Im wondering is if there is enough material on the 3500 plenum to port it out to 75mm..... anyone know?
Dave, whats yours ported out to?
