  • 1.5" headers on a 3500...

    Do they work ? I just wonder if they will block the exh. port too much.

    I was going to buy the OBX stainless headers for my 3500 S10.

    They only make 2WD version as well, but since I will have solid front axle 4X4 I belive it will work.

    Look pretty sexy to me :

    Only $200 MSRP for a set of headers and Y pipe made from 304 stainless? You better do your homework on that one.

        There's a funny thread on a corvette forum I was reading, the guys got all butt hurt that some dude spent 400$ on a set of OBX headers, and they perfromed exactly the same as some other guys 1400$ set, the thread was super funny. Dyno results posted and track times and all and the OBX stuff did just fine.

        They make good shit in China..

            It will be measured will be OD. For the price, you could modify them by cutting the flanges off and peen the pipes to the D shape and put new flanges on. Round 1.5" will cover some of the port.

              These headers fit great; only issue will be the y-pipe. It won't fit the way it's designed but if you weld a flex section in it will fit no problem. It also will clear a manual trans just fine even though it's listed for auto only.

                Yep...

                tube is measured OD, pipe is measured ID.

                I too would make the flange modifications.

                    When my friend bought these I think I remember putting a 3500 exhaust gasket up to it to see how it would work and I think the flange was big enough to seal. However it would be best to weld on a D-port flange.

                    Does anybody make stainless flanges? It would almost be a shame to weld on mild steel flanges...

                      Actually using mild steel for flanges on SS tubing is a good idea, less prone to cracking with expansion.

                        D port or round port, as long as you aren't blocking the port exit.

                        1.5" is a little small but it will work.

                            Find some long term usage reports on these things. And the first thing to check with welded austenetic stainless is the back of the weld. If it was not back purged then there will be black chunks hanging on the inside walls of the pipe. This will lead to the weld and heat affected zone cracking and falling apart. Back purging takes a lot of time and gas so it is a step that is often skipped. If a weld is only cosmetic on the front side it is not a huge problem. But heat and stressed will cause the weld to fail. So just check them out I would hate to see someone burned by knock off parts. But hey if they are the real deal then I may grab a set and modify them for my Trooper one day.

                              I have dealt with Chinese headers on a few occasions. They are in fact MIG welded, ground smooth, then polished, then a TIG bead is run over the joints to make them look pretty. Local friend of mine sent a BMW turbo manifold he made to China to have them reproduced.
