  • Anybody notice a perf. increase removing their cat

Just curious to know if it helped to either remove or put on hi-flow cats?
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

If you go with high flow cats, it's just as good if not better than no cats.

      Really? how so
I mean, all pollution facts aside.. how is it better than going catless?

You remain legal and have the benefit of near free flowing exhaust. I believe you also tend to lose some bottom end power without the catalytic converter, not just hearsay but I think I saw a dyno run to prove it. May also have a bit to do with the engine being tuned as a system.

Well I would deffinently keep the cats for the pollution concerns.. but man the LAST thing this 3.1 needs is even LESS bottom-end power LOL. This thing harps up top, but not down low.

Have you experienced how going w/ hi-flow cats helped your car?

No, but Hot Rod magazine did a full feature about it probably about 10yrs ago. Can't remember the issue #, but mufflers/hfcats actually INCREASED performance in the 1/4.
