id deffinitly go with a megasquirt 2. you can run it as a fuel only computer if you like, although its realy not that hard to throw a basic timing table into it and get it working properly. if you were to go with the ms1 and add spark later, its not quite as easy as just wiring in the distributor, depending on the board (2.2 or 3.0) you have to add the circuit for spart control into the computer.
ms2 will run your just fuel, or both fuel and ignition. it will controll the iac, and best of all it will interface with all your stock sensors and distributor without issue.
it seems quite complex to learn and set up, however starting with someones tune helps to figure things out. once you get the hang of tuning it, it is quite easy. ive had mine on my daily driver for almost a year now without major problems.

I have read it several times, and still haven't grasped it all. I think once I get control of one, I'll be much better off.Originally posted by lampy View PostI have a feeling I will be reading and rereading.

I was back at Mega squirt reading more, that was what I was looking at was IAC, MS 2 is looking like the way to go. MAN! there is alot of Info to look at. I have a feeling I will be reading and rereading.

Again, you have to add the IAC stpper support, go to an older For TB, or make a PWM IAC (instructions are there, but I haven't done either yet).Originally posted by lampy View PostI've read it a few times, I read it again tho, there is a lot of info there its a little overwelming. What I got the last time is that I can use the MS1 and control fuel then down load MSnS-E to control spark at a later date, correct? That sounds like a good deal saves $100 over buying MS2.

MS1 can control park also. Have you read the manual yet?Originally posted by lampy View PostMS1 I would use a carburated 2.8 dizzy. MS2 I would use the camero dizzy.
Just not sure which way I want to go, Keep it simple with MS 1 or step up to MS2. Just wanting input and ideas for now.

I'm not sure if the stepper motor control is going to be a problem the car wont be a daily driver so a few minuets warming it up, would that be the only problem?Last edited by lampy; 09-23-2007, 08:35 PM.

MS1 does not support a stepper motor IAC. I believe there is an add on code for it, though.
If you use the 86 dizzy, what are you going to do for spark advance?

another mega squirt thread
I've been looking at the Mega squirt to use as a stand alone for my next project. I'm just not sure which one would be best. The car or truck will be my toy, not a daily driver. The only things I know for sure on the next project are:
1, It will be RWD
2, Ironhead 2.8 stroked to 3.1 (other than that its stock, it was carbed)
3, Manual trans
4, intake from '86 ish camero
I can go either way on Ignition, computer controled or not, I'm leaning towards not. I have a distridutor for a 86 ish camero but can get a dist. from a carburated 2.8 no problem. No turbo or super charger.
The MS1 looks like the simplest just controling fuel, can it be upgraded later to control spark?
The MS2 do you have to control spark advance with it or will it run with out that part hooked up?
I want this to be as simple as possible thats why I'm leaning towards MS1.
I've been looking at the mega squirt site but am having trouble understanding it all.
Any thoughts\opinions will be helpful!Tags: None
