    Yup, thats kinda what I was thinking. Great Job by the way. 218HP/270FT/lbs. at the wheels, WOW!!! That came out really cool. Manifolds are no big deal with the turbo, and an easy upgrade later since you've got all the hard work done. I bet it was still a HUGE increase in power.

    I have no idea what the engine bay looks like on these trucks, but does anybody know if there's a way he could fit the heads/intake from a fuel injected 3400 and convert to fuel injection? Maybe an UIM designed for RWD or something? I assume it woud be good for alot more power than the carburated setup.

    Nononono, we don't care about the cars.... We care about the trucks!

    In the last couple of days, I learned that I probably could fit a GM 350 (I know, not a 60V6) with 290 hp into my Jeep. The actual crate engine is around the same price as the 3.4 that I have been leaning towards. I know I haven't considered the cost of those items that I am going to have to replace with the V8 (tranny, engine mounts, and everything else) compared to the direct swap that the 3.4 offers.

    Is there anyone here that has had stick time driving the 3.4, after swaping it from a 2.8?

    I think I would like to stick with the 3.4 as it should be more fuel efficient, and won't require me to spend the additional money on the rest of the drivetrain NOW, as opposed to when I decide to get around to it.

    How much more would the additional items that the 350 needs cost me?

    GP's came with the dohc 3.4
    F-bods, the iron 3.4
    grand am's- 3400.

    nope the 3400's came in the n body's and such and the 3.4L iron head was the f body's.

    Arg, there is no such thing as a "3400 DOHC", It is a 3.4 DOHC.

    3400 is a Gen3 engine. Any iron head engine is a Gen1, any alum head engine with flat-tappet cam is a Gen2, and any alum head engine with the roller cam is a Gen3. And then there is Gen4, but I think what defines that is still in the somewhat grey area. All the VVT engines will be Gen4, but I think the 3500 non-VVT would be considered Gen4 as well.

    Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you'd be seeing 180 hp on a carbed 3.4 without mods. I think when they changed displacement from the 2.8l to the 3.1, and then the 3.1to 3.4, there was only like a 5-10 hp increase each time. The big increases came from the intake changes.

    I think you'd also be getting at least an extra 30ft.lbs.tq. if not more. The HP will make it a little faster, but I think the extra tq. would take care of those big wheels and the extra weight you were taking about, especially while off-roading or accelerating from a stop.
