    never said that... the idea is to match the engine to the car without going overboard when considering building from a fuel economy standpoint

    Footnote - This vehicle has 267 motor in it...with 200,000 miles on it...and the three speed lockup tranny(THM200C)...which bites about 4 mpg, when compared to 700 tranny (700R4).

    Those 3800 motors have far exceeded the stock 267 motor currently in this vehicle.

    Uh...it's always nice to have some good links...engine swapping is nothing new under the sun.

    Even at Classic Truck, they have some motor mounts for putting in SBC/etc...

    exactly, i hate it when people get a small engine in a large car and complain about the mileage... your making the smaller engine work harder to move the same mass while a larger engine will have more torque down low to move the mass without working as hard

    putting a 2.8 in an old impala like that isn't going to get you much better gas mileage than the small V8 that's in there. Maybe worse.

    IMO you should just find a 305 and drop it in.. you need the extra torque for the large car.

    the 3800 came with a 4l60e in 96+ camaros. in fact, the 3.4l came with a 4l60e in 94-95. before that, the 2.8/3.1/3.4 in the f-body got a 700r4, the early 80s stuff got a th200c (3 speed with lockup). the s/t trucks also had these tranny combos with the 2.8 and 2.5 iron duke. as for a 5 speed, the t5 would be the best bet.

    I have not checked this forum's link page...but it should be there, imho.

    3800 can be mated with 4L60E (96+ camaro and firebird) for converting an older rear wheel vehicle with this engine/tranny setup....any other tranny options here?

    Asking the wrong person . The 3500 heads ia going to be the first aluminum set-up I've had on a 660. The only problem I hear is the LIM gasket. Take a day and change it out for an aftermarket, and problem gone.

    I've seen them with over 300k miles. It's all in how the motor was maintained. I have a Ford that has over 185k, runs like a champ, but has been impecibly maintained. In typical Ford fasion, though, the tranny was rebuilt twice.
    I have had some extremely high mileage engines, my 3.1 looked really good inside after 89k miles, and some detonation. One small score out of all cyls, and the cross hatches are still quite visable. If I didn't detonate with the turbo, it would be running good right now
