i read that. and it seems to me the tranny codes change back and forth through the instructions, then again, I may be a moron. just so i get it right...
an FDR from what year and tranny code?
and the gears and chain from what year and tranny code?
Yes I want the 3.73 gear ratio.
I would go 4.xx:1 if i could.
And I talked to EP about a month ago. He said he closed his business but he might still do a few units, race only, upon request and cash up front. I may go the rest of the season on what I got and just come out a terror next spring.
I'm looking at the GM electronic parts catalog at work, 1996 beretta, if i got this right, the gear in-line with the converter side is the 37 tooth and the other side, inline with the axles is 33 right? Or am I looking for that the other way around?

Maybe the reverse reaction drum is about to explode in the 94? Dunno on that one, but Jon might.
Is that quad trans a 60e? You can swap chains, gears and diff, in certain combos to get what you need. Here is some interesting reading:

OH! something else.
Can I..would this work?
Take the gears and chain from the 1995 2.3L achieva
5PCW 2.3L Quad4 N Body (6-bolt side cover) *3.29 33/37 3.69 29 2363
And put just those gears, not the FDR, just the side 2 gears and chain, on the '97 trans? or is that where the spline difference is?

trans should be labeled 7AFW for the 3.33 ratio. I'm going hunting. I found that thread with the white GP rebuild, I'm going off of that and the links provided in there for parts.
and...wouldn't it figure, the '94 GP I just bought for the wife to drive, hammers into reverse and drive, but shifts normally when driven. Any hints on what beautiful and wonderful broken parts I'm going to find in that one? I'm really hoping someone tells me to just flush the trans and I should be ok, she sat for 2 years. Prob. wishful thinking.

60e was until 99. Buick Century had em. I think only the Century had 3100 too, and is a W body so they should have a "good" FDR of 3.29 or 3.33
The achevia is probably a 2.9x FDR I would guess since it's an N body. My 2.94/2.97 whatever it is blows. Well the gears blow, but the FDR can be changed.
94 and 95 they were sort of unique. Reverse cuts and fine and non-fine gears... I think 96+ it was all the same so that limits you.
I'd personally just grab a low mileage 99 or 98 trans and work with that. If low enough miles, a full rebuild isn't needed. That's what I'm going to do.

Well, there's a little bit of a problem. I have a decent FDR now, and planned on swapping the gears to go a little bit more. Currently I have the 37-32, I believe, and was going to get the gears for 32-37 which will bring up my overall ratio to 3.69, if i remember correctly. The problem lies there, the spline counts are different, something I read, and I'm sort of stuck with rebuilding what I got, a 1995. So going on that, do I still look for the parts you pointed out for a 1995? Do they exist? And next post brings up a good point, they made the 60 in '98-'99? I'm not sure either.Originally posted by IsaacHayes View Post3400-modified has rebuilt his 4t60e(s). Use a transstar rebuild kit, hardened reverse reaction shell, and hardened 4th clutch input shaft thing whatever it's called.
Also make sure to use the new borg warner roller sprag esp if you have an older trans.. I think the design changed to the better one in 96+.
And yeah you can change the FDR if you wish too.
LSD there is EP, but I'm not sure if he is doing new builds still, and it takes a long time.

they made the 4t60e after 97? news to me. so did the W and larger cars get the 4t65e in 98 while eveything else kept the 4t60e?

Who was our resident tranny guy? I'm going to go get a good boneyard trans and start a rebuild. I've done a few tranny rebuilds and it would help to know any of the quirks and possible mods to this trans to up it up. Also, is there a LSD for the 4t60e? She was posi burning nicely, last T&T tho, she one wheeled from wheel to wheel badly, never done that before.

this one should cover the PCM side since the only thing you are dealing with is the shift solenoidsAttached Files

I'll have to dig up my ALDL info, it tells how the solenoids control the stuff. It's a certain combo of the solenoids get you different gears.

well, i guess trans internal from the solenoids, a plug diagram at case, and the ecu plug diagram.
If i read this right...
"these are pics that i took while installing the micro switches.
micro switches 1.50$ each
since it aready had 2 switches being used for the starter and revlights i had to get a bit more creative.
i stacked the " 2nd gear sol" on top of the others and jsut selded a lil nut on the slider plate to close the circuit while in manual 1 and 2 ...
the "4th gear sol" (not pictured the batterys went dead) on the console plate and welded a screw angled backwards and another nut . so teh switch is closed in manual 4th and 1st.
so for clarity
-both switches closed to have first gear
-2nd gear switch for 2nd gear
-3rd both switches open
-4th 4th gear sol closed"
I can do this with only 2 micro switches? Why is this confusing me? His pic is terribly blurred, a bit better visual and I think I could do it.
