  • #3 Misfire after LIM Change

this is an addition to my thread here; http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1149170. I'm really stuck with this one.

Ok I am coming from the grand am forum, but i really need some technical help here. I stared it up this morning after LIM swap. I went to a gas station and got a soda then on the way home, i feel the engine stutter during the last turn to my house.
Im having a miss in number 3. I know that cause I can pull that wire and the car still runs the same as if it was still on. All the others make the car almost die.
I keep on fouling out the plug also. I read this story.....
( Lower LIM change now MISSING?? Any opinions... http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82947 )
So I went down to our local pick n pull place and i find a 2002 3.4L Malibu, So I get 3 injectors off and clean them all thoroughly, took the better looking one and replaced that injector.
Got it all back together about 5 minutes ago and I'm still having the same problem. No. 3 plug is all wet with FUEL not oil.
Im at a loss here any help.
after replacing the Injectors and swapping spark plugs with other cylinders, I still have the miss in #3. Maybe a floated valve, but Im still learning... Im strapped for cash for a bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Im going to try a compression test on that cylinder today.

You've swapped plugs, but what about wires for that cylinder? Could easily be a bad plug wire.

Ouch, that sucks. On the plus side, the inside of that engine looks good for 150k

BTW, FWIW, I would give the oil a sniff test to make sure there isn't too much fuel in the oil now since that cylinder wasn't firing. If you smell fuel, I would change the oil so it doesn't thin it out too bad.

Good point! I have been meticulously watching the oil, and I just put a new oil filter in.
hmmm what do you think about draining it from the plug, inspecting it, and dumping it back in? Thats what I did with the oil thats in it now. its REDline and it only has about 4000mi on it, so i swapped the oil filter out when i was done and put it back in. The oil is good for 10,000k

I don't know if I would go a full 10k with any oil, to be honest. Even the Mobil 1 I use. I go 5k with it between changes. Either way, if it smells of fuel, it needs replaced. If it does smell like fuel, I would drain it out and use it to wash off the helicoil area after you are done to rinse any shavings down into the oil pan where it would be rinsed out by the oil before putting some fresh stuff in there. If it smells fine and you still want to use it, I would drain it, helicoil and rinse with some cheap house brand oil from a parts store and let it drain right out of the pan as you pour it and then add the Redline back in. Just be sure to surround the area around the pedestal with some shop rags and cover the rest of the head area to cut down the shavings introduced into the oil while drilling the hole out.

Glad to hear it was a fairly easy fix. Good thing it was on the front of the engine. Rear would have sucked...
