a ghetto "stethoscope" could be used to track where the noise is loudest. for the injectors.... depending on how well you can reach them, unplug one while running for a second or two, see if the sound goes away or changes frequency.

the idle is a little odd in the cold. how would you identify whether its piston slap, lifter(s), or an injector--without ripping the engine apart?

piston slap = will probably last another 200K.

anyways, what i thought was lifter tick for the longest time turned out to be injector ticking.... just something you may want to listen to/feel for.

its at just about 200k miles and has rather noticeable ticking. about how long will the engine last under normal driving conditions? i hope its not piston slap. if its lifter tap i can just adjust the rockers right?
