  • Help Me pick a Cam

Still wanting a new engine. I've been kicking around the idea of a 3.4 with 3500 heads , intake, with 10.5 CR. So where and what size would you recommend? It would need to be a regular hydraulic cam not a roller. The Crane H272, which might be hard to get, is a little on the small size. Give me some ideas. Isn't the stores cams all rollers?

what rpm range are you looking to run in? what other supporting mods, car, tranny and gearing, will you be using to utilize the rpm range? i've never heard anyone say the 272 isn't big enough. maybe it could use a little more lift, but duration is pretty healthy. you can also custom grind a cam as well. i believe delta cams is good.

Well I'm hoping for max hp at around 6k. Running a 4T60 with a 3.42 gear and going to change the stall to 3K. Have FOCOA headers with 2.25 cross over and 3" exhaust. Hope to open up the heads and intake. Forged pistons and 6" rods. This will be going into my 85 Fiero. Present cam is a Federeal/Mogual CS192R dur214/224 lift .473/.497 w/1.6 rockers.

the H272 is a great cam, with the 1.6 rockers and excellent flow of the 3500 heads it will scream. Max HP should be around 6K or so.

Here is a list of other cams that would work.. http://members.shaw.ca/betterthanyou...haft_guide.htm

Since your going with a big cam and having to tune anyways i'd look at 11.0 compression. What your looking at is what i'm running now on pump gas. Haven't got it completly tuned yet but good enough for everyday driving.

923.4v6, How does it run? Does it idle ok? Any 1/4 mile runs? With present 3.4 iron heads, 9.8 cr ,6" rods best time 14.9, hope to knock off a full second with new heads, intake and higher cr.

i have a clip i'll have to find, maybe i can post it? Syn had a hybrid 3.1/3400 with 9:1 CR and the 272. had the slow lope at 800 rpm. sounds sweet. well, for a quicker idea for idle, this is what i could come up with. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yZ76...om=PL&index=34

                that sounds sweet ass!!

It seems to run ok, no 1/4 runs yet. Just got it running after the strips closed. It idles good just a slight cam sound. I've been looking around for someones 14.0-14.5 1/4 datalogs to compare mine to from the time I quit spinning to 95mph. Mines also in a camaro probably 500 lbs more than a fiero though.

Hey I don't see for instance Crower specifying anything for the 3.4, will the 2.8/3.1 cams work for the 3.4? I haven't looked at Comp or anything but the motors are all the same otherwise except for displacement...
Do you have the 1.6rr's and lifter set for sale aswell or just the cam? How much are you asking? Ever come to Canada?
And brings up another question, I had a guy around here on cl selling a set of 1.6rr's for a 2.8 and I wasn't sure if they are a direct bolt on for a 3.4. I'd like to put a cam in my 3.4 to put the porting and headers to use.
