Cannot use a gen3 camshaft in a gen1 or 2 block. Sorry Geeds. Gen3's use a hyd roller cam, and the older 2.8/3.1L blocks are a flat tappet cam setup which does not allow the use of the gen3 lifters.

Go with a Comp cams 16-233-4 cam or the Crane cams H260 camshaft. Great power and still great drivability.

you can use roller cams in the gen 1/2 block, just gotta secure the lifters.

no -- the real reason you cant use a roller cam in the gen 1/2 block is the lack of proper flowing oil to one side of the lifter valley. crane tested it and found that each cam they tested would fail @ 4500 miles after it was put in. the lifters would fail.

The issue is can you use a stock 3100/3400 cam. Even if you put on the 3100/3400 lifters and guides, you would then also need too machine the timing chain area of the block too accept the thrust plate and then run the 3100/3400 timing chain sprockets. That's assuming there would be no oiling issues either (with stock 3100/3400 hydraulic rollers).

There are no issues with running mechanical roller lifters/cam, though.
