  • goofy spark distributon question?

Ok, so 1st of all, has anyone ever ran aluminum heads with a distributor engine, if so.. how? 2nd how do yall think you could run 3400 heads an intake on a 85-86 RWD engine with a distributor?? see, the problem i run into is that the 3400 manifold hangs over too far for a distributor to stick in.. the 3100 manifold is about 1/2 inch closer for it to work, but if ur gunna build somthing you mays well fail at somthing totaly awsome, than succseed at crap... so anyone have a diffrent plan?? I would even consider putting coil packs on but dont ya need a crank sensor for that?? lol.. i already have a modern crankshaft in it.. so any input would be helpfull, espeicialy if there is some sort of crazy spark distribution that i dont know about yet..

I thought I saw some crazy 90 degree setup for the distributor. It was sideways basically.

NOTE: Must be used with a Jesel Camshaft Belt Drive Kit and an MSD Flying Magnet Crank Trigger.

I dunno if it would work, kuss i would have to have an open timing set, and i really dont know how that would work with the water pumps on these engines

if you want to run gen 2 or 3 heads, you need to build a custom intake to use a distributor. the other option is to run dis ignition, and to do that you need a crank trigger.

So the external crank triger would work for this app.. ya think??? that would make life 10000 times easier!!! I have no computer on this motor tho... All i have is a power and start wire going to everything.. there a jacobs ignition box and coil.. thats about it. do the crank sensors conect directly to the coil packs??

Tes that would sorta work and would fire and MSD box or a coil pack. But the problem lies in the fact your using a carb. You have nothing to control the timing or the distribution of spark to the correct cylinder

That would give him the ability to run a computer with DIS to control the spark. The external trigger will let it know what cylinder to send spark.

The easiest way to do it would be teh TGP chip, using a 1227730? ECM. Its that or the 1227727, which ever one is water proof. 88-93 grand prix (you can use the DOHC ecm as well from 91-93), lumina, regal, cutlass. You could also use one from a cavalier or beretta but the wiring for the TGP will be closest to the W bodies. The TGP chip will let you use a 2 bar MAP and you can setup the spark table for boost as well. Otherwise it will use the same spark for all conditions under boost with a 1 bar map setup.
