I've got it pretty much figured out i think. I got a 2005 3.6 VVT from a LaCrose complete dropout. gas pedal fuel pump, all accesoris, wiring and ecm. My tuner can tune the stock pcm to get rid of the torque management so the drive-by-wire will operate like a throttle should, get rid of the tranny stuff, get rid of the security crap. Basically he can do anything I want to the pcm, and he is gonna tune me up for boost. I am running this in my 87 Fiero, longitudinaly with the Audi trans, and he says it will be no problem at all. On top of that if I wanted to stay N/A, he has tuned a few of these already, says he has a tune that gave a CTS dyno proven 15 extra horses to the wheels.

Anybody done an LY7 Swap yet??

I'm especially interested in putting one in my Stalker V6 (Lotus 7 replica) and THINK one from a Cad CTS might be a possibility. Wonder how much room it takes up compared to my 3.4 Camaro 60 degree motor (especially height and width <at the cams>)

    I know..

I wanted to shave a tad off the tops to get my SCR up in the 13's or so.

I am still trying to work out the details with my 3.9L swap. I am in the same boat with the wiring. I am probably going to order a pontiac g6 shop manual so I have some schematics to work with, and I am talking with efilive in hopes that they might be able to help me eliminate the need for the bcm or at the very least stop the pcm from going into limp mode just because the abs, air bags, etc aren't hooked up. This website here has a complete 3.6L swap for off-road applications, but I bet they'd sell you just the harness and computer if you contact them direct http://www.mechtech-ms.com/ctsv6.php .

Thank you for your input.. Being in Australia, the 6t70 isn't even available here, which is frustrating.. but the vvt engine is.. and disabling the vvt sort of defeats the purpose of doing the swap as wanting it all is why one would do it in the first place.. I did get this from one who knows more than me..

Meanwhile, the whole project is looking daunting.. I wonder what would happen if I just bolted it up to the existing 3 sp auto.. ..

The Northstar and 3.4 DOHC fit, I can't see how the 3.6 wouldn't. the most simplified approach is to install a 7x reluctor wheel and manage it with a preexisting OBD II PCM. The camshaft actuators with a little creativity can be locked into a specific position to function like a non VVT engine. The 3.4 DOHC programming is probably the closest thing to its programming data from a basic standpoint as a starting point. I used aluminum tubing to lock the cam actuator in the 3900 at 0 deg at TDC for my engine which is what the cam regrind specs called for.

The OE PCM would be the best controller without question, but there is a lot of extra vehicle related nonsense in it for what you are trying to swap it into and very little support for it and what little that is available in my opinion is impractically high priced relative to other options due to its newness. EFI-Live for example should have programming equipment for it at over $700 but I don't know what it's capable of.

The wiring harness is going to be pain, but I suggest starting with the 3.6L wiring harness and going from there. Also I am not sure how GM is handling their tranny programming now days as I was told by a friend that his 07 Trail Blazer SS had a separate PCM that controlled the tranny. If this is the case for the 3.6, it might make the swap easier.

HPtuners supports the 3.6L, so that should help iron out most of the codes and security issues.

The 6T70 uses an internal TCU, however is till receives input from various sources such as the braking system for its automatic downhill assist system. Due to the ECU being internal I can guess that the only way to program it for performance is via a tuner of some sorts, no mail order TCU.

Good luck on the swap the LY7/ 6T70 combo should be petty amazing.

Who has the 3.6 in a rail? I really need to talk to him. I just recently aquired a 2004 CTS crate motor from the Factory to go in my rail. It sure is nice to have relatives at the factory.

Going to look into what the off-road guys are doing. Another member has a 3.6 in a rail. I am getting warmer, I can almost smell the rubber burning.

Yeah, not much out there, I think the best route for me will be a LaCrosse or Randezvous with a 4t65e for starters, then the 6spd auto later on.

Yeah, these engines are new enough that people either don't mess with them in the cars that they came in, or they are pretty high priced, and as you are discovering, its hard to get info about them. I've love to pick one up to mess with, but I have too many other things going on to warrant it (and 4 other engines already sitting in the basement waiting for love).
