pullin motor out question????

Doesn't your subframe get out of alignment when you unbolt it though? Or is there no adjustment on bolting it up?

there was no adjustment on mine... there was just enough room for the bolt to go up threw. i did the change from the bottom and the car track straight

dropping it from the bottom sounds alot easier than yanking it fromt he top.
might give this some thought as i pulling the motor to put the cam in and do some work.

I've removed many engines from the 92-98 Grand Am's and I found that I can have a motor out of the car from the bottom in about an hour but removing a 3100 lets say, would take about two and a half hours to get out. I dont really find either easier than the other it's just that pulling a 3100 out from the top on a 92-98 Grand Am takes a little more time (but less physical work) than dropping it out the bottom.

I have a 1987 cavalier 2.8 that i am swapping in a 98 gran am 3.1 can I drop both motors out the bottom?

well i changed out the motor, it was super easy to just pulled from the bottom. i just pulled motor,tranny and subframe all at once. made it so much easier to pull apart from the tranny.

Hmm, I may do this when I drop in my motor. Sounds a lot easier than trying to tilt the engine and trans to get it down there.

its quicker in about all of our cars because everything comes out pretty much still bolted up, and then you have a lot more room to remove the engine from the trans and so on

Are grand am's really that much tighter than grand prix's?

Pull the Half shafts, drop the sub frame. Un plug the wires, fuel line, trans lines, power steering lines unbolt the motor mounts.Use the cherry picker to set the engine on the floor pick the car up high enough to slide motor and trans out in one peice. Once you have done it once, its easy and does not take long. Takes longer to clean up the mess when your done.

usually easier just to pull the car off of the subframe though

It can come out of the top. Its a tight fit, but it will come out the top.

hey all, has anyone ever or know someone that has changed the engine in a 97 grand am???

question- GM is sayin it has to be pulled out from the bottom, is that true or can it come out from the hood area??
