Need help identifying a flywheel for 5-Speed swap

Both of mine have served me well, and I agree with Dave, that one on the right is not a 60v6 flywheel (I've never seen one on a 60v6 or a 2200 with 6 holes around the outside). On the note of the flywheel bolts, I don't remember if I used flexplate bolts or flywheel bolts in the 91 (probably flywheel since the donor car was 30-40 feet from the 91), but now would be an ideal time to toss some ARP's at it.

Yeah, after Dave mentioned not using the bolts I had a feeling wot-tech sold the ARP's. Sure enough, they do. Even though I REALLY don't want to spend another $40 just for bolts, but not having to worry about the alternative.....priceless.

That would be a mess. A heavy flywheel breaking free at high rpm's with gear teeth. And if it doesn't fully break free, what does it do anyways?

Yah, that's not a 60v6 flywheel for sure.. lol


the Fidenza ones are nice but people have complained about them on gen3's. I always ran the steel ones with my 3500/HM282 and never had a problem.

Flexplate on left - Unknown Flywheel on right (sure as hell will not bolt up w/o a doubt)

IIRC, Fidanza(?) makes an aluminum flywheel intended for 2.8 5 speed fieros(282s).... probably pricey though.

OMG! - That IS pricey, lol. Probably way beyond what I need. A standard flywheel is good enough (especially if it's less then $90)

all of the factory flywheels that would work should be more or less identical though.

EDIT: seems they list it for a 282 equipped GP as well.

lol, ah ok. You got me, my mistake.

But I did read somewhere (I forget, too much online researching) that a certain year passed and the flywheels that were used were made lighter.

Is there a higher performing flywheel that will work with the 3100 and getrag 282 combination?

if not, what would be the best yr/model to get a flywheel from for a 3100/getrag 282 combination?

I had found the 2.2L Sunfire has the flywheel I need, I think. You about confirmed one I am looking at buying for roughly $60.

all the 60v6's have the same flywheel pattern (at least up to the 3500 gen 3), your '88 flywheel should bolt up fine.

I guess you could compare part numbers with one for a 91 Cavalier 3.1 but the Jbody guys have been bolting stock 2.8 and 3.1 flywheels up to gen3's for almost 10 years now.


Make 100% sure you use the longer bolts for the flywheel and not the short flex plate ones. If not you'll have a serious failure.

The issue is...I have a flywheel that will not bolt up. I will get a pic up soon. But no matter how it is lined up, it will not bolt up. So I probably have a non-gm v6 flywheel.

As far as longer bolts...phew, you saved me from that failure! Thanks man, that was a REAL great piece of advise. And I can clearly see why, less threads to bite into the crank.



Another question if you guys don't mind......Can I use a more recent 3100 flywheel that is much lighter? I read the 3100/3400 had lighter flywheels after (2001 was it?). Might be a stupid question since I'm told all gm 60v6 flywheels mate up.

What Dave said plus the LZ VVT engines use the same flywheel also. I am using a 3.1L Beretta flywheel on my 3900.

Project: 5-Speed swap

Using parts from an 88 Grand Prix 5-Speed. The flywheel does not fit. It is a match all around but the 6 bolt pattern is 1/8" larger in diameter and the offset is slightly different.

I need a flywheel to fit my crank for a manual trans swap. Anyone know what year/model/engine flywheel will fit a 3100 SFI v6?
