    Twincam in a 2nd gen Phase I (2.8) Cavalier

Now before you flame me for being a newbie, I did search for the answer to this question. Can you swap a DOHC 3.4 into a Cav? Or would having overhead camshafts screw with programming?

programing are the least of your concerns... Exactly what RebelGT said.

it *could* be made to fit. but then again you wouldnt have anything left in the engine bay compartment at all. Too wide.

3400 it and call it a day. Your in the 14's and have a super reliable engine. Do some more work and do high 13's. All with a new engine from the year 2000 or above that will run like a champ.

Id love to see an LQ1 in a J body...for the weight factor, but honestly it wouldn't be practical. Can you imagine doing the timing belt...hahaha! Pull the motor for that job. Id only consider it for a weekend racer and for someone with good fab skills.

3400 leaves you with room for a turbo, and that pretty much takes care of the DOHC cause I dunno where the turbo would go...without even more fab work

            It has been done.. http://www.geocities.com/jeremygonyou/3.4swap.html
But as the writer of that page states Its a lot of work.. I have a 91 z24 in the shop and a good 3.4dohc siting on the shelf next to it .. I think I would rather make a go cart outa the 3.4 then squezze it in ther.

It never was finsihed though, so I dont consider that done. Its close though, and shows the work needed. Too bad he used a 96 motor and made things much more difficult.

The 15hp/tq, maybe less, isn't worth the extra pain of having to fuck with OBDII, and the additional wiring. Plus you are limited for exhaust manifolds if you do not want to run them factory style.

Umm since when does the engine require a certain PCM?

I think it has been proven several times over now that the engine doesn'y care what PCM is connected to it, just that it controls fuel and spark reletivly well.

i saw an LQ1 in an older jbody once it just barely fit
although that was without a transmision under it

Its the EGR that fucked with jeremy. a 91-95 using MPFI would be easier to install in the J body for sure...not that it matters a whole lot.

                            that's mine

the problem is that the plenum wants to occupy the same space as the brake booster. so instead of removing the brake boost like Mr ganyou did. I'll be making a custom plenum*cough cough* with an m90 *cough* cough*. I will be using the same engine harness as the raven is for his hybrid. (even using the comp he was using for a bit )
