Before you give up completely you may want to consider one more option. If you use a T5 from a mid 80's Jeep and Dana 300 transfer case, you can drop your rpm dramatically. The Jeep T5 has a .86 5th gear which would drop your 70 mph rpm down to 2647. Also it is easy to change a T5's 5th gear to other ratios. For example, in my flat fender Jeep with 3.1L and T5, I changed 5th to a .76 ratio. With 4.88 gears I am turning 2450 rpm at 60 mph.

Can't use the V8 T5 as they are world class transmissions. Need to use a non-wc transmission. Reason being is there are no short main shafts (needed when using the Jeep trans adapter to transfer case) for use in the wc transmissions although there were some built for a short period of time a few years ago.Originally posted by caffeine View PostA V8 T5 would probably have the best gearing for this app and already has the 0.74 5th.Ed
