Yes. We have never used hollow core cams.

So the cams are solid cores?

We do not offer regrinds any more, and never used the stock hollow tube cams. The regrinds were always solid core cams reground. Comp has gone straight to the source on the cam blanks to get them in their rough ground state, before any stock specs are ever ground. This means more aggressive lobes are possible without welding and the pushrod lengths won't need to be as long for similar grinds. The billet cam has no rough grind and allows a few more lobes to be added to the list of options.

I know this is an older thread, but I have a question on the cams available in the WOT-TECH store.

Billet, self explanatory and not currently interested in spending that much...

If I'm piecing together the information, all but the stock regrind are solid cores?

This has been something in the back of mind mind for a while now, that I would need to address when I start building my 3400 or 3500, I have both, and may start with the 3400 and push it till it blows, then build the 3500 up from the weak point(s) found in the 3400. Getting back to the cam, I have seen several broken stock cams in stock applications, and want to address this one weak point in the gen 3 660.

I figured... it's just a pisser and quite an expensive wear part.

From most reviews I saw it was about a 6 hp gain and was only really useful for the oval track guys. I know that DDing will put the miles on it, but you don't keep the engine pegged at 5k+ for hours on end. With using the coated SBC bearings for our applications, I don't foresee any real wear issues. Especially since the 100k+ 3400s I've had apart just barely started showing copper with the stock narrow bearings.
Agreed 100k mile 3400's don't wear stock bearings but a heavy cam and springs will kill a set of those bearings quickly... or at least that was the case with my engine. I'm hoping the wide AL-3's I put in this year held up nicely but we'll see.

And bummer on the bronze gear... I don't know if it was just due to it being a milzy cam but the billet one I had with the bronze gear ate up the bronze quickly... 15k and it was near replacement, Might have also just needed a shim or something to get the gear mesh right, I'm not sure I didn't check that when installing, just kinda took it for granted it would be right.

Corrected previous statement, the billet core will need a composite or bronze gear.

The machine shops I talked to (possibly screwing me) wanted close to 1k to have them installed. I can pull my engines apart every couple of years and install new bearings for much less if there is a real wear issue. But I have a hard time beliving that. My connecting rods need replacing for stretch more often than my cam bearings :P. Obviously different for a dragster verse a weekend warrior DD. But I think the same concept applies.
