the 96-97 made the most power of all the years, but it is more high end power. since it was the last it had the most revisions done as well. only major difference that might affect your 3.4 project is to keep in mind that the 96-97 heads have smaller combustion chambers than their earlier incarnations.

im not sure about all the specs but i am confident some1 else knows.

wouldn't a vortec 4.3 be a good candidate, they are tbi i think. i have never driven one but at that displacement it is got to be torquey v6.

The 4.3 is a Torquey motor and this will help the lower end of the powerband but having to design and build the intake to accept the injectors would be a challenge.

Here's what I'll do since I'm going to goto the yard this weekend I'll grab one each price them out and then decide. If things go my way I'll be making more money soon and may even build both motors. I have an extra cradle assembly I could do a plug n play set up.

Definitly go with the 3.4dohc. The 4.3 will require an adapter plate and custom mounts, starter etc. Go to V8archie.com and you will see how much a kit costs to install a 4.3 You will save yourself thousands going with a 3.4 and the better flowing heads will even out the .9L displacement disadvantage.

The latest rendition of the 4.3(Vortec) made 200HP@4400 RPM and 260lb-ft TQ@2800. SFI. I'm sure all that motor needs is a nice cam/springs, as it does have SB Vortec style heads that flow well according to many SB Chevy people. If you really wanted to go crazy with this V6 I think that engine can be enlarged to 5.2Liters. Unlike the POS Buick engine, this engine has a strong crank.

CRZYONE, Don't worry about the adapter plates. It isn't rocket science to build one.

              4.3

Personally never had any experience with the 3.4 DOHC. But, when I was in high school my mom had a nice 97 Astro RWD. I liked it better than my 3.1 Cavalier, because you could brake torque it and roast the hell out of the tires!!!!
If it doesn\'t go fast, make it!!!
