  • to all those who have relocated the battery..

what did you guys use to make the connections at the front of the car? i tried to solder mine. but apparently it wasn't good enough because the connection gets really hot, and the car won't start because of it. to much voltage drop. i was thinking of using a distribution block from some car audio stuff. anyways just wondering what you guys did, and how its working out for you.

    thanks

On the end of the 2 gauge power cable was an end with a hole though it, I just bolted everything togther wrapped it in electrical tape and called it good.
      Its worked great

Although, a distribution block might look better

what gauge wire do u have? regualr 4 gauge is too small, use a stereo quality 4 gauge or a 2 guage. the reason it gets hot is too much resistance

I got 2 guage welding cable, right along side it on the shelf was end terminals for them. You could either solder them on or take a hammer and crimp the piss out of it.

A hammer to "crimp the piss out of it"?

What was there to solder? Get enough 2 g cable to run strait to the starter. Soldering will work but seems to corode pretty fast. Crimped ends seem to hold up prettygood themselves.

Solder on that size of cable is not a good idea. Using the proper crimp terminals would be best. Or if you want to go really good, get a compression terminal for car audio. That bitch is the best possible connection and will never come off. Bolting at the starter is a pain too, because you can't really torque the connection cause the copper threads on the stud strip super-easy. I'd say run only your starter wire to the starter, then run the rest directly to the battery or the auxillary terminal. But if you run to the auxillary terminal you must beef-up the axuillary terminal to battery cable.

I used to have my battery in the trunk... I ran the power w/ 4g stereo wire. It worked okay, but it cranked a little longer. The voltage seemed a little bit more finicky too. Since then, I have bought 1/0g welder's wire to run in place of it. I haven't used it yet, so no feedback. I also bought some stereo clamps for the battery and distribution block for under the hood. (I plan to run the 1/0 to the d-block, then 4g to the aux. post, 4g to the starter, and then 4g directly to the alternator).

Guy at my local starter shop mentioned to me one day when I was having starter probs to make sure I changed both bat cables AND the wire to the alt. Said he has seen these cars eat that alt cable up due to the heat these suckers make.

ok well here s the problem.

my car has a hard time starting but once it stars the voltage comes up and it charges fine.. for a bit then the voltage slowly drops all the way down to the car stalling out. so i boost the car again.. it starts fine.. and charges fine for a bit .. i turn the car off while it's still charging over 13 volts. When i turn the key back on. voltmeter says just over 12 volts.. shoul be plenty of juice to start the car.. i turn teh key and it'll turn over once or twice.. and that's it. game over battery is dead. i'm sooo frustrated with this its not even funny.. someone please help.

Sounds like the battery is junk--it's not holding a charge. Get a new one and report back.
