On the 3.4 most of you have had to remove the throttle cables numerous times to facilitate other maintenance. Mine had the plastic crappy holders broken and I used zipties to hold them in place, no big deal so far right? The cables worked fine without any binding for 50k miles so far.
Today I was cruising no problems when I let off the gas the engine didnt let off, the gas peddle felt stiff and I stepped on it harder, the engine raced and would not let off. Two feet on the brakes and off on the shoulder, put the car into neutral and the Rpm went to 8k!! I shut off the engine immediatly.
Under the hood I noticed the throttle cable all frayed causing it to jam full throttle. Alright now, got my heart rate back to normal and tryed to figure out how to get it back the next ten miles on back roads. Hummm.
I used the cruise control!!! That cable was in good shape. I just engaged the cruise, used the resume/accel feature and the brake to let up on the throttle. It worked!! Pretty cool too.
I have a throttle cable on order from the dealer, $22. Not to bad.
Now I'm ready for the next challange....Bring it on!
