i agree with it not being earth pounding all the time. thats why i always buy a deck that can control the sub output separately from the rest of the speakers (the deck i have does each speaker individually and has full dolby 6.1) yeah a little out of date but for a car, awesome. today i had my mom and my daughter in the car, so i set the sub level to near off, and i turn some bass on the surround speakers (which is normally turned off for maximum volume achievement and better sound quality, in my ears) so to do this all i do is go to the options for speakers in my deck (three pushes of the remote button) and go down the list of volumes starting from the top and set them all accordingly. then while driving some songs (downloaded) are a little different from others, some people record mp3s and add an "EQ" to it, to pump out more bass, or some are recorded bad, and have not enough bass. so the subs i usually keep two notches from the top, but on shitty songs i go all out, or when im in a good mood, i go all out. but then when i stop at a red light, or im in a neighborhood full of houses at night or early i have the subs turned to about the second notch up!! haha for me, its like having a second mansion, its just there if you need it. or bringing two guns to a knife fight. lol

i prefer my car to be LOUD in the other manner namely the exhaust note.

dont get me wrong ive got a powered sub on my home theater that's pretty loud and i also have a pretty large set of main speakers that have one 12" in each speaker.
these are the speakers i got. then theres a normal center channel and some good sized bookshelf speakers.
i like bass just not earth pounding all the time. actually im looking to add something small to my DD. just got to find a creative way to stealth a sub setup in the back of a subaru wagon.

it doesnt offend me. alot of people dont like the kind of bass i do, or understand why i do, or how i can take it for more than 12 seconds.
to help you understand the kind of bass it is, think of being out of breath, and not knowing why... everything around you is shaking, deaf people are looking at you... you put your elbow on the armrest only to jump off of it because of how much its vibrating... holding the steering wheel becomes quite tiresome, like weedwhacking or something, drilling lots of holes? i dunno... then, when the music shuts off, you feel the pressure change. the air gets thicker again, lungs are working, heartrate is returning to normal (instead of pounding to the beat of the bass) sometimes you have to check your hair, re-adjust all the mirrors... and just wait till you can breath again before you commence your next massage.
when i bought this car, it was about 2 or 3 weeks before i could get the stereo in, i was having MAJOR engine probs and wanted to get it running before it was pounding. lol but i went through withdraw of bass. i have 4 8" subs in my home theater, and it POUNDS but nothing close to what my two 12"s can do in the lumina. it was like giving a heroine addict sugar to keep him high. just wasnt enough.

not to bash you but i never understood the need for ridiculously loud bass.
ive had the same 10's for years and i basically just put them in for that little extra bass, nothing earth shattering. Jon you would remember them, think i showed them to you.
ive got a friend like this. he feels the need to have his bass uber loud. wtf is the point when you cant even hear the lyrics.

Makes you wonder what thats doing to your hearing if it blew open the trunk like that.
Is it really necessary?

So I think I have too much bass.
While driving to my Exs house to pick up my sweat little girl. (my daughter) and i was pounding some good happy kinda music that anyone almost could listen to. (dont often listen to new music or watch MTV or anything) so i dont hear over played songs unless im in someone elses car, and i hear it once. lol so i heard Boom Boom Pow, by The Black Eyed Peas, and regardless of what you might say about them some of their music does sound good to me, and have a good beat. so on comes boom boom pow, on my latest Mp3 cd full of random downloads for this week. and i slam the volume to the max, i hit the subs up to top volume and everything is goin good, till all of a sudden my bass cuts in half, and my arm stops vibrating (the one on the center console, cuz the bass shakes the crap out of EVERYTHING in my car) your face goes numb. hahaha and then i pull over to see if i blew a sub, only to find this (well like this, but i didnt take pics at the scene.... but this is how it looked when i got back home:

and a look up at it if youre curious:

so, tomorrow is going to be a day i spend an hour or so after work, and try and make this trunk close again, with some heavier hardware, and maybe a custom built trunk release latch holder bracket that atatches with 4 1/2" bolts. (we have them in excess at work) any size, and carriage bolts too!! all sorts of spacers and leader wires.... i should be able to manage to make something work tomorrow. but i found this funny.Tags: None
