  • Yeah the 3.4 bracket gives the most clearance for the alternator and TB. The 3.1/2.8 bracket needs some adjustment for it to clear.

    Did you pay attention to the 3.4's alt bracket in the area of the external trigger? It covers those mounting holes anywways, so you could probably cut the A/C part of it off. Thaty reminds me, what are you doing about the trigger?

    • the way i mounted the bracket doesn't interfere with the trigger, i'd cut most of it off but the tensioner is on there towards the bottom.

      I have an extra trigger wheel from my original swap, i'm going to sandwich it between the dampener and the crank pulley then space the accessory brackets out 1/8" to make up for it. I'll also have to add a few washers to the legs of the trigger.


      I seriously considered just adding the 7 notches to the dampener but i don't have the time for that now. Plus i'd have to weld the old timing mark in. It would be so much easier if the FWD pulley would work with the RWD timing cover.

      • Hi Superdave, I've been following ths thread but don't really have any good input for you. My '89 is a 5.7 TPI with a 3 stage chip. Besides that it's pretty much stock but has been sitting for many many years. It still only has 41k miles on it but looks like 41Million from sitting so long. I hope to get it together this year if the money holds out.

                • Looking good. I'm sure Dave will make better use of them than I did.

                  If his tuning goes well, I may build a set of six 50mm TBs for my MGB next year.

                  • Yep.. the tuning will be fun but i'm up for it. N/A all the way!

                    You can see the air filter i'm going to use sitting on the windshield, it's a pretty good sized K&N from a 4th gen Camaro. Going to start on the air filter box tonight.

                        • With your mounts to the Spohn K Member, why did you choose to go with solid mounts?

                          What did you do for the rear mounts?

                          • I still plan on switching to poly mounts, the solid mounts were just to get the engine in the car and hold it in for now.


                            what rear mount? the one on the trans crossmember is still stock as well as the torque arm mount. I'm going to fabricate a new trans crossmember to add some exhaust clearance and a mounting point for the torque arm one of these days.
