Interesting that the bellhousing is the same The F23 setup works, but I don't really know what, if any, differences there are between that and what the older manuals had. I didn't do the install but nothing was brought up about it.

The 3.9L (and all FWD 60 degree V6's AFAIK) share the same starter as the 2.2L. I have the latest V6 starter on a 2.2L myself, nice to not have to dick around with the ring terminal for the solenoid wire anymore.

A T5 bolts straight to anything in the 60 degree V6 family and has bell housing with the starter on either side. I have a 3.8L Camaro T5 bolted to a 2.2L bell housing. That same bell housing bolts on to my L82 3.1L as well.

With a manual bell housing available I'm not sure what the point of messing around with an automatic bell housing is.

        Here's the V6 starter on a 2.2L:

Thanks, it's been years in the making. 10.6:1 CR, will be running Megasquirt3 full sequential with LS coils. Probably won't win any power/speed contests, but the plan is for the whole build to be as clean as the engine.

I've contemplated trying to get the 60 degree V6 VVT system working on a 2.2L, but it would be quite the endeavor.

Edit: I slapped a 2.2l flywheel on my 3.1l because I was curious, never tried it. Fit right on, and the flex plate from the 3.1l went right on the 2.2l.

I beg to differ on that. ARP 102-2803 matches the OEM bolts exactly. The OEM bolts have an underhead length of 0.925".

I used 108-2201 for the pressure plate. The T5 calls for a different pressure plate from the NV1500 but I didn't bother to check the differences when I had both on the bench. I think they're probably very minor.

Those are what I sell on WOT-Tech for the flywheel and pressure plate bolts.

Was doing some digging around and found this website:

Seems to have some cool 3.9L parts. Once I get my S10 back on the road, I've been contemplating trying to find a blown up Triumph TR7 to swap a 60 degree V6 into. I've done some eyeball measurements on a buddies TR8 and it looks like the crossmember for the steering rack is far forward enough to fit the FWD oil pan. Not sure about overall engine height though, it seems the V6 is taller than the Buick/Rover V8, and definitely taller than the leaned over 4 banger in the TR7.

Using the ARP kit I used allowed me to take full advantage of the extra thread in the crank (and these are quite shallow to begin with in my eyes). The solid flywheel flange is ticker at .380 versus the flex plate at .204" thick. I sized the bolts to 1.24" under head leaving 2 full threads still in the hole....which is only about .080". This makes 1.24 - 0.38 = 0.860 thread engagement or almost 2 x diameter. OEM length of 0.925 - 0.380 = 0.545" giving a 1.4 x diameter engagement ratio. A good rule of thumb starts at 1.5 x diameter in similar materials so the bolt yields before the thread strips while being torqued. Reading into that you can see the OEM was aiming for about that spec with a .925" on a flexplate. Still that leaves 0.315" or 8 full threads to go plus the 2 I didn't use. I question the factory 0.925" bolt length in this case considering it's so critical.
The factory flex plate bolts are 0.720" under head length. I've never had an issue with the length of the flywheel bolts. I have both in front of me right now and can tell you without a doubt.

The flexplates also use a spacer ring on them to increase the thickness.

EDIT: I just looked up a G6 3.9L for shiz & gigglez and it shows an 18mm flexplate bolt.

I'm confused. Stating the factory bolt sizes is considered trolling? Even Ben said it's the same size bolts he sells for these engines. I didn't realize you would be offended by that.

Hopefully a moderator can either delete this thread or change the title back to something less ridiculous.
