  • It never ceases to amaze me...

I remember back in 2000 when there was a small Yahoo group that consisted of a few dozen guys talking about their little V6 engines. Who would have ever thought that little group would ever grow into the following that is now this site. We have been through so much these last 8-9 years, I sometimes forget just how big this site is. Sure, compared to some sites out there, 60V6.com is small. Even if you just look at the stats at the bottom of the forum home page, is seems like this is such a small site: 6,770 members, of which only 455 are active (active means the member has visited within the last month). But, I think its the people in the shadows, the ones who lurk around for months, and sometimes even years, before they finally have the need to join, that really show just how big we really are.

I just happened to be watching a show on Nickelodeon tonight with my daughter, and it was about young kids that have their own websites. And they talked about having hundreds of thousands, and even in one instance, over a million hits to their site. That made me think of 60V6 - how many hits do we get? Well, I am pleased to say that in the last 12 months, we have had OVER 21 million hits, and it looks like we average around 1.5 million hits each month. Every minute of every day, their are 35 pages being looked at.

I probably do this about every year, but every year I feel that it is necessary. If it wasn't for all of you who visit the site, and make it what it is, it wouldn't be here anymore. Ben and I can only do so much, and the last few years, what we have done has become less and less. But it is you, the members, that keep building on what was just a small group of guys posting 4-5 messages a day on a Yahoo group, 9 long years ago...

Lets hope the site can continue to grow, as it has become a major part of so many peoples' lives!

thanks for the history brad, i didn't know anything about the early development of the site...

though it looks like we are making constant breakthroughs, so i imagine the site isn't going to stop growing any time soon.

and i hate to say it, but if you ran ads on the site, you'd probably make enough cash to make people jealous...

Perhaps, but that is what makes this site so unique from so many other sites out there. It is run by enthusiasts, not people trying to make money. Sure, it would be nice to make some money off of all the time and effort I put into the site, but I would rather keep the site clean and focused. People have been telling us for years to put ads up on the site, but there are so many more people that say its nice to see a site out there WITHOUT ads, as it is few and far between nowadays. As I mentioned above, I was watching a show about teenagers running websites which prompted this whole thing. One mentioned having ads on his site and that he was bringing in hundreds of dollars every month, which his father was making his put toward college (which is brilliant, I must say). So to think that some teenager is raking in money off their website and we are sitting here running off donations and our own money seems stupid. But like I said, that is one of the things that draws so many people to the site, and keeps them here as well.

It's cool to see this place here even though I may not be that "old" of a member here. I honestly thought I wouldn't be here as long as I have been, but junk happens and here I am.

That's amazing to hear. I wouldn't have thought it to be that many hits, but there you are. I would conversely like to know how many hits the other GM cars sites get on a monthly basis. Not that I'm competitive about that sort of thing...
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I remember when 60v6 was part of GM Forums, and you boners had to go have the first 60v6 meet before I could find out about it. Thanks guys... In all honesty, I am glad to see that this site has turned out to be what it is. There is tons of great info here, and like Brad said, it's because of the members. Whoda thunk we all collectively rock so?

to many more good years here!

Even though I am so new to this site I must say that the compassion that every member on this site has is just awesome. Ive been to too many forums where there is jerks that think they know it all and try to flame you if you ask a "newb" question. The information on this site is easily had, the members are friendly, and the moderators keep the site extra clean!!! I am definatly here to stay!! Lets keep it up guys!!!!

You would be a n00blet, which is like a pre-n00b, not to be confused with a prenup. You have to get through the n00blet stage before you can wear the n00b title proudly.
