so whats that work out to ? 16-17? % of all 3800's are L67's... (did i work that out right) hmm not very many.

yeah i guess its with any 'performance' version of a motor.. not alot of them will be made due to customer demand. Thats why you only see less than 5,000 LS6 engines built, but 52,000 LS1's were built. That number will be way down for 03/04 since the Fbody is gone and itll only come in the vette.

Anyway I guess my point was, the 3100/3400 is GM's 2nd bread and butter engine.. and has been since the 2.8/3.1. You also shouldnt have too much of a problem finding them for next to nothing in junkyards (or ebay). Good times for us!

that's wrong, don't forget the new GTO it's going to have the latest verson of the LS1 i think, or the LS4 I'm not quite sure! i think it's the LS1 though

Weren't those ONLY available in the Trailblazers/GMC equivalent?

That says a lot considering how many different cars the 60* motors are available in.

The 4200 was a good motor, a lot of power, good mileage, and was pretty mechanically sound. The V8 Trailblazer suffers like 13 less mpg, and only makes 15 more hp.

Well trucks (includes SUVs) are stupidly popular. I'll bet the 4.2L, along with the new 2.8 I4 and 3.5 I5 derived from the 4.2L handily outsell 3x00s by a large margin in the next couple of years.

GMC equivalent is the Envoy. But there's also an Isuzu, Saab, and maybe a Buick that all have versions as well, which also get the 4.2L.

Oh, and speaking of the 3400. I was just reading the Equinox review at thecarconnection, and here's what they had to say about the 3400

The sole engine for the Equinox is the 3.4-liter version of GM's 60-degree pushrod V-6. This undistinguished engine traces its heritage back to the debut of the infamous X-cars back in 1980. Now assembled in China (where it's used to power the Buick's GM builds there) the 3.4 isn't particularly smooth and, at 185 horsepower, not particularly powerful. But it's absolutely perfectly matched to the Japanese-made five-speed automatic transaxle to which it's mated. The drivetrain is unobtrusive, adequately powerful around town, and relaxed during cruises. It's also thoroughly unexciting.

Really, they should have put the 3.6L in there and not the 3400. But since that'll happen the day hell freezes over, they should at least put the 3500 or 3900 in there.

Yeah, Id like to get one of the GM turbo or twin turbo or whatever it was, prototypes of that I-6
