Alright guys, I am back.. I have my LQ1 sittin on the stand, ready to be torn into, built, blown, and 6 speed'd..

I am shoppin for the Turbo right now, and I WANT a GT35r.. Tough to come across, yes.. However, I have been lookin at this one:

Garrett T3 ar .42 on the cool side and a .48 on the hot..

..I want to make certain this blower will spool up strapped to a DOHC before slappin 9k on the tach.. I also can get a smokin deal on one as well..

..As far as the rest of the car, it is torn apart, and the old tired 3.1 needs to be dropped.. I am droppin the whole crade as I need to swap out the steering rack, engine cradle, suspension, etc.. I cant WAIT to have my Turbo Lumina that can run with my buddy's Camaro! Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sounds small. I'd bet it would spool before 1500 rpm... Turbos with a/r ratios in that range tend to be pretty tiny. Two of them might work though...

The smallest T3 turbine I would go with is a stage 3 in a 0.63 a/r housing. A stage V in a 0.82 housing would be more like it and the P-trim T4 would let you take advantage of more power than you know what to do with. If you find anything that's a T3/T4 hybrid with a stage 3 or stage V turbine, it should work very well for you. The A/R ratios are swappable, but you would need a new turbine housing for each one. They can help you configure your powerband and lag.

Good T3/T4 hybrids are easy to find, but most are designed for D16's and other ridiculously small Honda motors- not a 3+ liter V6 motor.

..I am lookin to go with a single setup now, so I'll look for a T3 as you mentioned..

FYI- on the compressor side do nothing smaller than a 60 trim T04E. The 60-1 and 67mm T04R wheels are good and quite a bit larger.

What of a T70? A friend of mine swears the DOHC can spool it with no problem with its smallest trim and a/r..

And Syn was sellin this one, and I am gonna see about pickin it up:

Get a holset, they're cheap and good performers. I've got an HX40, but an HX35 is probally a bit more reasonable for spool time and power output.

What trim is the one Syn is selling? Some of the T04B compressors (like versions of the 60-1) are very good and some are less than optimal.

A T70 might work well on an auto with a high stall, but it probably would be a bit laggy from a roll. (honestly- anything with a T4 turbine housing will be a bit laggy from a roll/stop- bigger 3" catless exhaust makes a huge difference here)

Very good turbos. The Honda-Tech forced induction forum has a great writeup on Holset turbos. (some of their sponsors also have regular T3/T4's or T4's going for under $600)

my HX40 was 50 bux, a rebuild kit is 60 bux, and a you can get a better exhaust side from bullseye for under 200... Guess which way I'm going

Sorry been so long guys to reply.. Been on the hunt for Turbos, so I forgot my thread here.. Whoopsie..

..Anyway, I thought the same a t70 would be too laggy on my car, especially as I am installing a manual transmission, so it wouldn't perform how I would want.. Here is the info on the one Syn was sellin.. I dont know if he still is or not, as I cant get a hold of him.. Syn, if you are reading this, I want it!

Alright, I started tearin into my DOHC today, and have a lot of work to do.. (Needs new valves for one thing.. Look as though they've been over heated at some point and oil starved)

I am now searching for companies that specialize in forged pistons and beefier internals for this motor.. (I know I can give anyone specs, but I am also lookin for the best price I can get on these forged pieces..) I do wonder about the cams.. I imagine there is nothing wrong with the stock cams, as far as power gains and will stick to them..

..Computer tunig is where I am a total noob.. In my other thread in "DOHC general" I explained I will be going to OBD2 with this car.. And I am wanting to hae a computer built into the car to monitor the OBD2 system.. What do I have to do as far as "tuning" my ECM/PCM? How do I reprog. the thing.. These are a few trick I need to learn to do.. Because I know the stock controls wont be good for me.. Especially since i am going manual with this car..

..Which brings me to another query: When I hit that clutch, which part of the turbo system will retain the spool when I go to shift to the next gear? It is the wastegate, is it not? Or does the BOV fall into that somehow? I knew what it was a long time ago, but have since forgotten..

..I have my turbo selected, and am 90% sure I want to go with a T04E 60 trim turbo.. .63 AR an the 60 trim (Der..).. And a 3" catless, mandrel bent dual outlet exhaust (Thanks tim! ) I just thought I would share where I am at this point.. COmments are welcome!

Sounds good.
DHP and HP tuners have tuning software out for the 97+ Z34 PCM. DHP for sure does the 96 also.

For forged pistons, Ross racing may have some off the shelf ones that work. They do a lot of 60 degree V6 work.

The BOV is what helps keep the turbo spooled between shifts.

Thats what I thought.. Thanks Tim! Now, assuming I had the thing bored over (The safe amount, lol) I know then I could find some for the correct sizing.. I am not sure about the wiring as i haven't gotten to tear into that monte yet (THe cutty decided to stop running) but can the 97 PCM plug directly into the 96 wiring harness? Thanks a ton!

You're welcome. The 97 computer can physically plug directly into the 96 wiring harness, but the pinouts are different and it will not work. The 97 PCM is designed to run a 4T65E and has extra inputs/outputs. The 96 PCM is still setup for the 4T60E.

I see.. I wonder if this Monte is a 97 then.. Becuae when I pulled the tranny off it and sold that, the pan said "4t65e" on it.. I am not mistaken, because i thought I was going to need to use that tranny in my 94 supreme and I wasn't sure if it would work.. I'll need to go look into that!
